They were a Aussie only thing. They were made in the early - mid sixties and you could order one on your new car...think. I know someone who fitted them to new cars when they sold them from a dealership in the old days.
Thats why there worth so much these days.

Which style do you have Bill ??

I have more pics and different places fitted them slightly different

i bought two doors at a swap meet for $35 and they have the stripe down the side of them. Instead of pulling of the bottom chrome strip i will leave it and manufacture a two piece back stripe for the back of the beetle in my avatar. it will be like the cream beetle with white walls. 4 years ago i bought a complete beetle with a red streak along the side of it. It was missing the crome strip though. It's similalar to the pink with th white stripe beetle. It's in the first pic the beetle i'm talking about. Can imanufacture the last two chrome pieces or can i buy them cheap. Cheers Bill.

billholmes - September 29th, 2005 at 05:22 PM

How much for the two bottom back stripes like 56astro's car?

karmen - September 29th, 2005 at 06:33 PM

u mean 2 = both sides ??
OR one side may be 2 pieces due to the fact they curve in opp directions.so depends as these are the difficult sections

billholmes - September 30th, 2005 at 08:29 AM

I mean the back part of the car near the back mudguard will post pic of area in a minute

billholmes - September 30th, 2005 at 08:31 AM

karmen - September 30th, 2005 at 09:09 AM

link did not show, bill

can u e-mail pic to me pls

Turbo54 - September 30th, 2005 at 10:08 AM

If you build replicas can you put something on them to let you know they are replicas and not the original pieces.
It would be good to know as lots of people swap bits for bits to make complete sets and I for 1 dont want to get ripped off by not have original sections. I too could of have some pressed and made but thought it would be better for everyone to keep the flash kits rare and valuable and not just rape the system because everyone wants these at the moment.
It might just be me, but I know theres a few of us out there that have followed leads, bargained, haggled, begged and borrowed for a set of trim and I for 1 dont really want to see more sets produced. Thats the point of having them, that not many others have them, to be unique. Dont turn these into a fashion item like wood slat roof rack.

karmen - September 30th, 2005 at 01:47 PM

thought so
they are the curved and more involved bits
i will need the with and thickness and radius or arc measurement .
Also is yours vw ...stainless or any other type material. so it will match in clr and shape.
have to see if any in the stasch
or have to make up b4 i give a price, bill
give me a cuppla days

billholmes - September 30th, 2005 at 05:14 PM

Alright. i spose i could get two chrome strips and have a straight curve instead of a bent curve. It may even be cheaper. But ispose it'll depend on the cost. How much do you estimate the cost of manufaction of these chrome pieces bent perfectly?
Bill

karmen - September 30th, 2005 at 05:25 PM

TO BE HONEST LET ME SCOUT AROUND AN I'LL DO MY BEST PRICE
as i have more access to mabe used ones and have never done curved ones but am looking into it with a retired plumber who has some skills and bending gear..leave it with me but need to know sizes and material yours is ie is it identical with a 62 chrom strip

later became s steel etc

cheers
