40hp engine or bits wanted to fit 40hp engine
koolkarmakombi - October 5th, 2005 at 01:13 PM

I am the collector of Das dubbers 40hp engine and 36 hp gearbox.

I need the bits to get it going for a project demo engine

Dipstick
Gen pulley
standard exhaust
oilbath aircleaner
any in dash type ignition switch (from anything)
2 six volt coils
6v starter

My plan is to strip and clean it, build a trolley and have it as a runner to teach mechanics on. I have some old vdo guages to put on a 'dash' oil temp/pressure. I have the steel, engine stand, welder, tools, wiring etc

It will come to VW days etc as a rolling work in progress to show all those who dont know how an engine works or want to show a mate/kid/spouse/insignificant other what makes the car go.

I would ideally like another complete engine. Then I can have one in bits or cutaway so it can be understood what goes on inside.

I am also looking for ideas on what to power with it. Those who know me know Im in it for the boxer engine and would love to get this going to convert more of the masses. I have boxer cars x 2 a boxer bike, boxer lego and a free box on the side of the head from my wife whenever Im cheeky ;)

I will pay postage from interstate if needed but would prefer pick up in brissy and free from the junk pile.

There is no $$$ in this for me and it wont be worth anything. I can even put a donated parts list on the fan shroud for those who do. Kind of cool recognition.

kool karmas to all!

opinions please...

G'day Mate

It was good to meet you the other day, hope the dogs didn't scare the little one too much.

How about a chainsaw???

Seem to remember a freaky mpg a year or two ago where they did demos on a massive log with chainsaws powered with a standard chainsaw moter, a 4 cylinder toyota engine then a V8 powered chainsaw........it took 2 guys to lift it but it cut through a massive log in a bout 2 seconds.

Cheers

Brad

Chainsaw could be interesting!!

As far as I am aware it is the original engine of the one owner 63 beetle which is now my current resto'd bug. No idea of miles it clocked up but I did know it was running when the owners daughter crashed it about 15 years ago (then it was parked under their house until I dragged it out and restored it [the body anyway]). I know it turns over by hand but you can feel a spot where it sticks a little - probably rust on the bearing surface in one spot. Apart from that it looks pretty complete compared to a lot of the old 40hp engines running around (not too many thermostats left on QLD engines!).

Was good meeting you and your SO :D

Nice Ghia! Get as much done as you can before junior takes up all your time.

I like the idea of a chainsaw, could chop up a volvo at club days! Another good idea I have seen is a biig cement mixer. Be a bit hard to transport though.
