G'day,
Finally got some pics of the trip accross the Simpson Desert by 7 Kombies from Central Victoria.
1. Maccas' carpark ready to leave.
2. Rons' Splitty climbing a dune.
3. Bay doin same dune.
4. Don on Big Red, 90 metre climb, biggest dune in the desert.
WOW!!!!!! I'm impressed!!!! :thumb
Did anyone need rescuing?
5. Bay on Big Red.
G'day Jenz,
All the Kombis got accross under there own steam, but one of the Splitties towed a 4by that was stuck!!!!
Cheers, Ian.
6. 3 Kombis on top of Big Red looking east towards Birdsville.
7. Camped under the Algebuckina Bridge on the Oodnadatta Track on the way up to the start of the Desert.
8. Back window of Anthonys' Bay says it all.
Fantastic....the pics are excellent
I've spoken to 3 of the guys (the 2 Splitties and green and white Bay) and they had a ball. The temp was up a bit and the flies gave 'em heaps till
sundown, but otherwise good time had by all.
Cheers, Ian.
That's amazing stuff! Esp the splitties.. they just seem to keep on dubbing huh? great pics Ian - all the best with the rest of the trip!
Very tidy work guys.
Preparing for the trip $5000
The look on the fourby drivers face when you make it up big red? Priceless
nice pics
Top pics guys. Looks like a lot of fun was had. Were the any problems engine wise on the trip?
at least 2 of those bays seem to have standard wheels - thats pretty impressive
G'day,
77bay, the only engine trouble was a hole in a piston in one of the Bays, they took the pushrods out and took the plug lead off and drove from
Birdsville Qld to Cent Vic on 3 cylinders. Another crack a generator pulley. Otherwise no problems. All Kombis crossed the Desert unaided (no
towing).
Cheers, Ian.

rhys
What a hoot!!
G'day,
Yeah Rhys I was feeling a bit out of it way up here with no holidays due etc, etc, but they all reckon they're jealous of us living it every day, and
we do enjoy it.
VWCOOL, all the Bays had standard height suspension but taller tyres, the splitties are sitting a little high than stock with Bay front ends and the
'63 Dualcab has bay rear end transplant and '67 still has reduction hubs.
Cheers, Ian.
