Importing an Oval to OZ
Beerboy - October 12th, 2005 at 01:25 AM

I know this has been asked before I am sure, but can't find anything when searching?

Anyone got any idea of a price to get Roll On Roll Off to Sydney from London for an Oval Beetle.

Well its on a seventies pan so it will be a seventies beetle ;-)

Its RHD and over 30 years old thanks

Not sure if u r aware but they use salt on the roads in winter over there. Old cars seem to suffer from rust badly. Dont meen to dampen your spirit, i just wouldnt buy sight un seen

Cheers
Doug

Tell me about it mate, should have made it clearer, I am a pomme with my sights on Sydney. Been in oz for 12 months, here for a holiday, back to sydney, for good, hopefully.

its a swedish import (no salt) still took eight months to weld up and the floor is all done too. Body of resto.

I know its a bit like bring sand to the sahara, but this car I know every last bolt and its a good un ;-)

trying to work out what the f$%k to do :-)

BOOMERDOG - October 12th, 2005 at 06:24 AM

i think we have a common goal dude!...boomer

Beerboy - October 12th, 2005 at 06:48 AM

think thats half the problem, old threads have gone, all that comes up is this thread and another you have posted on with someone saying they can't find that.

must have been lost when the server last went down I guess

BOOMERDOG - October 12th, 2005 at 08:30 AM

When you use the search function, change the time period from 1 week to something else(3 months for example). The posts are still there..

Try looking for ads in "Thoroughbred & Classic Cars". It's a classy pommy mag that has ads for shipping to Aus, Seth Effrika and Enzed

Beerboy - October 12th, 2005 at 08:46 AM

thanks all of those replies are helpful :-)

Kombi_Rescue - October 12th, 2005 at 08:54 AM

roll on roll off is by far the cheapest option 4 u...the only issue being the chance of shinny bitz being nicked whilst in transit ..take plenty of photos when the car is delivered to the dock....yellow pages has heaps of shippers...do it its going to be cheaper 4 u than building up another car in australia...getting nsw rego will be a snack as a private import..plead ignorance when getting it regoed as an oval much more simple...cheers steve

Beerboy - October 12th, 2005 at 09:00 AM

thanks mate, its a shame as the car is nearly finished, wouldn't take a lot at all to get it on the road, just want to see what I am looking at cost wise.

need to go to WH smiths and find that mag ;-)

I am getting more tempted that for sure :-)

BOOMERDOG - October 12th, 2005 at 09:43 AM

o.k., we are moving our whole house contents , 2 motocross bikes,& the oval in a 40 foot container from the u.k. to sydney for around £7000.[ addonto that cleaning, quarantine, etc] + the import duty will be worked out on 10% of the vehicle's value.
look up anglo pacific shipping on the net , they are based in london.
other shippers you want to get quotes from are...

john masons

gb liners

pss

abel shipping

loads of relevent info on
http://www.britishexpats.com

hope this has helped some.........boomer:)

thanks mate thats great, I take it you aren't going for a holiday then ;-)

no chance you can squeeze a pan in there then ;-)

when do you leave, I am missing sydney big time, weather must be getting better, and I want to get back to my bay and split bus and get on with then ;-)

squizy - October 12th, 2005 at 10:57 AM

Hey Boomer are you the guy with the yellow oval moving to Kincumber?

Beerboy - October 12th, 2005 at 07:13 PM

Yes I Believe so, thats the gist of the other thread.

Warrenm - October 12th, 2005 at 07:16 PM

Try Australian Van Lines-I know they are very good Aust to Tilbury in 20' or 40' containers. The London end may be able to help.
Email Andy Lumb at andylumb@vanlines.com.au

say referred by WarrenM

They can organise both ways- A WA guy took a Kombi to Europe and back last year as it was cheaper than motels and hire cars.
It is approx $AUD2650 from Aust to UK but not sure of current return.

Beerboy - October 12th, 2005 at 10:30 PM

thanks mate the best I have got is 750 pounds Ro Ro port to port plus any other costs that it will occur I am sure.

not too bad, someone at the shippers reconed 4k aussie dollars to get it on the road which seems a bit mad

Beerboy - October 15th, 2005 at 04:09 AM

what about surface rust is that a problem with the Road worthy test in NSW?
