i got a 1776cc type 1 and it has a lightened flywheel and counterweight crank and rods and has a 40dcn weber. if i put a crank and a twin carb setup will it be fast enough to scare commodores, at the moment it is alright but i want more power, looking at going into wrx power at some stage, just looking for a cheapish intermediate. thanks for the help

cam and twin carbs yeah maybe

Bizarre - October 13th, 2005 at 04:18 PM

and compression and head work and valves

bajaben - October 14th, 2005 at 12:43 PM

already had the compression upped, also was thinking new heads with the ss valves and dual springs and stuff like that so that it can rev without blowing the heads off, lol although that would be fun to see.

No point doing the heads unless you do the cam.

The cam makes revs and the head work allows it to do so.

Now ......"what" cam??? :jesus

thinking of one that lets me get some high rev so like a 110 or 120, i think thats what they are called, dunno anything about cams. if i was gonna do heads i would also be doing the cams and twin carbs.
i might just save money and just but a non vw in there, maybe an ej20t or a 13bt.

You will not get a 13Bt in there legally. Ej20T is the max.

3sgte, sr20det, ca18det, Mazda 2.5l V6. These are also options.

Ben, what about an SU and a turbo with say 5 pounds of boost? If the compression is still standardish it will be fine. Just run it on optimax. Also, then there is no need whatsoever to touch the heads or the cam. ;)

I'm aware there are other options, but for power/turbo combinations the EJ20t is the limit, with more power available than the others listed.

Thems fighting word for any nissan freaks out there !!!..... I think ultimately the SR20DET has a higher power cieling possible than the EJ20, but it would be a close call, and anyways its tough to put an inline 4 in a beetle....

Would be a close call with the sr20det.....but i was refering to the capacity allowable and I'm sure the rex donk would kick the nissan $ wise and at least could be installed with less hassel. They are also cheaper to modify for more horses.
