get a Polo.
or spend the extra and get a Golf.
For $18k you'd get a sweet mk4 golf.

Not keen on the colts myself. They look a bit like a souped up packing box? My mum has a toyota echo, and i reckon they are top cars for their price, you should definitely have a look at one. The part i really like is the digital dash which is in the centre of the car and like looking through a tunnel! Your mum might like the driving position and also the layout of the car (they make good cars for women i think because there are lots of little storage places in the car and plenty of room for the shopping cos everything folds down!) I've found toyota's to be pretty reliable, and for the price, the toyota echo's are great!

I had one of those Echo, Echo, Echo... things as a hire car in Sydney this year. The central digital dash is a novelty, but certainly not a selling point. It's position is distracting and away from the direct line of vision, which must raise safety concerns. And its definitely a Toyota - styling and design has not changed since the eighties. And it's not just Toyota that suffers from the ho-hum syndrome - those Hyundai Getz should live up to their name and Getz back overseas. And the Pulsars chew more petrol than a Kombi Ute hauling a car trailer.

My experience behind the wheel of the Volkswagen Golf range shows these cars to be superior in every way. They are built better, have excellent handling and driving manners (in the Japanaese small cars I always seemed to have to push them to get anywhere and there is plenty of body roll), and for the price offer a much better value proposition. The Golfs also offer something different in style and design, particularly dash layout. And diesel is the way to go - fuel economy is outstanding with no loss in power.

Dude stay well clear of any mitsubishi right now , they are on the brink of shutting production. the asian market has died for them and they rely on the aussiemarket. if the new 380 is a flop say bye bye to mits ..

steff...........

Bought a new VR Magna 4 months back............163kw V6, 5 speed auto/tiptronic, AWD, big brakes, sports suspension, sports exhaust, factory body kit etc etc.................10 year warranty....................best car for the value. Out handles and out performs my VY Bombadore, and is certainly quicker point to point than my wifes Ba falcon.
As for the Colt, Mercedes A class rings a bell !!
I don't think Mitsubishi's dead just yet!

Stay away??? Your kidding, right? Out of all the cars on the Aussie market at the moment, value for dollar would get me owning another Mitsubishi before a Holden or a Ford. Having worked for Holden,Ford and Mitsubishi dealerships, the quality of the "other two" does not even compare.Don't forget they also import their cars, they dont just make them in Australia. As for Mitsubishi going broke??The company is one of the largest companies in the world and is highly diversified (shipping/electronics etc as is Hyundai) so the likelyhood of that happening is probably less than that of their competitors, The new magna is make or break at that end of the market (larger cars) and will have a flow on effect to the rest of the company,as Holdens 4 cylinder Commodore did to Holden, but they will by no means be dead. If it was that bad they wouldn't offer a warranty that leaves the opposition for dead and a better value product across their entire range.Just my 2c worth........
