Hey all, I have to get an oval gear box out off the pan asap.
The shell is off, the linkage and mounting brackets are undone.
All thats left on are the shafts. I have undone the nuts on the cover and am a bit lost on where to go next...
Anyone know how to get it out quickly from here?
cheers
There are three bolts at each end of the swing axles - (where they bolt to the spring plate) plus two at the nose of the gearbox, the shift rod bolt, and two under the ends of the chassis. Easy job
Cool, thats what we did in the end. Now I have to get the axels away from the geabox itself...hmmm.
Cheers!
when i saw the title i thought brokco(sp) cutter or oxy torch
you will have to take the big axle nut off the drum
then the four bolts out of the backing plate and remove them and the spacer, o'ring etc
take the nuts from the axle flange, not the diff side cover
now you should be able to remove the axle housings/tubes with some gentle persuasion, being mindful that the end casting can distort or break ( a
puller would be the best way)
inside there near the diff you will see a c- clip, take them out with pointy pliers and the axle should pop out of there
if you intend to use the axle's again mark them as to which side of the car they came, cause its best to keep them with the stress in the same
direction
cheers

There's no c- clip on the oval gearboxes as far as I can remember...
