wont NRMA "pay you out" without writing the car off.

My mate has had several dings where some one has run into him. NRMA has approved a claim amount and given him a cheque.

He has them got his preferred panel beater to fix it

no they wont, the only way i can keep the car is by goin 3rd party claim and pursuing the money that way and thats risky ive been told. plus ill only get market value not insured value,
other wise they write it off and i have to buy it back at auction, but i cant afford to buy it back AND repair it,

the assessor i spoke to this morning is a brat he just wants to write the car off he doesnt particuly care want i would like for the car,

if anyone knows any other way out of this please let me know, please, the car means everything to me.

ask for another assessor and make a complaint to his manager. Then write them a letter telling them how long you;ve been with the comapny and that you will go elsewhere along with telling all your friends about the case. Word of mouth is a powerful thing.

BTW, once you do get it sorted, rack off the NRMA and go to Shannons. Much much better and they actually car about classic cars and their owners.

Hard lesson to learn (and a lesson for others) but if the car 'means everything' you should have thought of proper insurance BEFORE the crash

But surely you can buy it from NRMA before auction?

Sorry; fair call; maybe I shouldn't have said 'proper'. What I meant was: classic insurance where you have the option to retain the wreck. Due to the cost of parts, labour etc, 'normal' comprehensive insurance on a car worth less than about $15K means any more than a scratched bumper and it's usually bye-bye broom-broom and you get a cheque

You probabaly didn't know that

Sort of

I went through this

You have to make an offer to the assessor.

If "THEY" think it is a fair offer they can reccomend they it be accepted.
They are not obliged to say if you offer is sufficient or not.
You only get one offer.

For me it worked
I paid $500 for a mildly damaged L Bug

but my assessor was a friendly bloke
