Does anyone live in Sunny Adelaide????
City of churches, and ,er,, stuff?
We are thinking of relocating to S.A (from NSW) for work (Adelaide Uni). Would love to get an idea of what the place is like. Whats the atmos? where
to live? etc etc..
all feedback appreciated...

stanford hotel genelg beach sunday arov's....woohoo!!!!!
I was in Adelaide the other day, stayed for 4 days and had a great time... I like the city for it's layout and size, not too big and quite easy to
get around... People there are freindly, day to day didn't seem expensive and if I had the chance to settle there and it was the right time, I'd
probably take it...
Hey, if ya give it a go and find you don't like it, just keep going to Perth, we're only 2100 Kilometers up the road...:thumb

I have heard the water tastes like crap???
is this true?
Actually, I didn't touch the stuff.........:beer
Kidding... I didn't mind it.. Didn't taste as much like toothpaste as Perth water to me.. I occasionaly got a "woft" of what I'm told was the
river, which seemed a little pongy, but only in certain places and after a few days I didn't notice it anymore... (the locals can't smell it).
If it's Just the water that's holding you back, then you needn't worry..
The place is a lot like Perth and both are more laid back than Sydney which seems to have a rush rush feel to it...
(not that I minded that either)
Gleneg is quite touristy and becomes one big shoulder to shoulder cafe` strip on the weekend.. They're doing a revamp of it at the moment which
should make it nicer..
I was a little dissapointed to see the high rise development along the beach front, which was not there in such a scale last time I went, although the
buildings are fairly attractive so that's not too bad..
There's some great history, beautiful old stone houses and lots to see, I wish I'd stayed longer but I'll be going back next year so I'll enjoy it
some more..
Maybe you should go for a few days or a week and get a feel for it..
Stay at the Comfort Inn Manhattan and tell them Danny from Perth sent you..:thumb

Cool, thanks for the advice,, Will find out in next few weeks if we are going or not (application is being sent on Friday),,,,
Will be big move for us, Lismore (2 sets of traffic lights) to Adelaide (Hmm, wonder if they have more than 2 sets? probably 4 or 5!!). Like the sound
of it though!
cheers

You will love it. Spent a lot of time in Adelaide on biz over the years and its a great city. Glenelg is one of my fav spots. Twenty mins to everywhere so no traffic woes really.
The place is great, hills 1/2 hr from beach, plenty of open space and not many people.
The fishing is good, and lots of hidden away of the track cool spots to just cruise to on a lasy weekend and jsut relax.
Where you thinking of living when you get here? Lots of VW enthusiasts.

Been ther 5 times for various reasons and always enjoyed it.
Was warned not to go into Hyde Park after dark though :duh

anyone in the family goes, they bring back Heaps on the stuff and it
lasts a few days hahahah
Oh Killa i had forgotten about the Garlis Metwurst
I would go back just for that
The pub there has fantastic meals as well
ah yes, have just heard they have a great Oktoberfest too!
mmmm, German beer in big frosty glasses
Lived here for 8-years - love it ! And if you get to Harndorf, you can't go past Grumpy's Brewhaus for killer beer and a bloody good pizza - http://www.grumpys.com.au - at the far western end, on the outsikirts of Harndorf, just as you come off the freeway - a mate of mine is the restaurant manager there.
Ever been to dubbo?
"Adeleide is like dubbo, but more poofters."
j/k
.. as in "there are more poofters in Dubbo" - that's probably a correct statement
Thats it, all this talk of Beer, Sausage and Pizza........I'm moving there, got to escape this bloody weather.
Are there are V Dub clubs?
Cheers Rob:beer:beer:beer
As long it's not the talk of poofters that's got you going......:P
I'm being transfered to Adelaide early next year.........I can't wait to go.
I read a post a while back about a local VW club, any ideas?
Cheers
Rob
I saw a workshop there that does VeeDubs...
If you wanna buy me an airfare, I'd glady show you where it is...
Update:::
I have been offered a position at Adelaide Uni - study comparing subtidal assemblages,,, just waiting to see if offer comes through for my other
half....
When are you transferring Rob? If we go it will be around January-ish...
Noticed there are lots of VWs down that way (must be the climate)...
All exciting stuff.
Anyone know what surf is like there?
daave:beer
surf is average.
you have to travel a bit for a decent wave.
And the sharks seem to hang around for some reason. Just dont go towing yourself round behind a boat on a surfboard!
The best thing about Adelaide is if your watch stops or your calendar is 10 years old it doesn't matter.
Don't drink the water.
If you see Vic Hislop and his shark hunting boat. Sink it!
