hhmmmm if you get a photo quality pic down to the paint shop they may be able to match from it? just an idea ;)

or go throught the color books and find one similar :P

Gibbo - December 5th, 2005 at 06:14 PM

Nice! Kind of a candy apple colour, try the 'house of kolor' paint range.

I think its spelt a bit quirky like that.

Gibbo - December 5th, 2005 at 06:15 PM

DIY-DUB - December 5th, 2005 at 06:18 PM

i know i liked candy apple but it was to pinky, ive bin lookin 4 a mix of ruby and candy, now ive found it and it looks oh so goooooooooooooooooooooooood

pyr0 - December 5th, 2005 at 06:22 PM

ok ok candy is like a type similar to that of a metalic.....

hhmmm this is kind of hard to explain. candy's are pretty much a tinted clear over a base color which is mostly silver.

candy apple is one color of the candy range ;)

helbus - December 5th, 2005 at 06:22 PM

I think Mitsubishi Magna's come out in a similar colour to what you are after. Also Daewoo Matiz's.

DIY-DUB - December 5th, 2005 at 06:24 PM

cheers for the link gibbo, appreciated muchly

DIY-DUB - December 5th, 2005 at 06:35 PM

cheers everyone, looks good on its own too, was going to go a two toned thing with white between the guards style, but it looks better textured in a real pic than on a paint drawing. i better not see 100 other bugs gettin red resprays now, ive noticed that theres usually a mass of bugs @ shows in very similar colour, usually one major stand out, last few years have been green, blue, hope red isnt this years/next years thing:simlegrin: also you would think i was happy or something hey

barls - December 5th, 2005 at 06:43 PM

looks similar to chaos hes a 64 ruby red

PrettyBlueBug - December 5th, 2005 at 06:56 PM

Wow, nice colour!

I know what you mean about colours of Bugs being the same... i know of 3 others in the same colour as mine! :P

toplessbug - December 5th, 2005 at 07:16 PM

who is going to be on the end of the airline???

helbus - December 5th, 2005 at 07:56 PM

Two tone sorta like this

crewcabconnection - December 5th, 2005 at 08:05 PM

yeah dark, rich, pearl, metallic candy ass ... you'd better prepare yourself for the ticket price...not to mention just how well you'll have to prep the car to get it looking as good as that one...which is stunning...

DIY-DUB - December 5th, 2005 at 10:29 PM

im prepared to do it myself thanks muchly, im a perfectionist anyways, and wont be happy till i like it, may end up costing more than a pro respray but do you think this is a face that cares?(isnert non-caring look face here) im building my bug on one principal, everything i can do myself i am going to, only things i cant do for legalities etc is the exception, most probebly wouldnt understand my reasons for doing such but maybe someday you will

MISS VDUB - December 6th, 2005 at 12:16 AM

I'm painting my bug Candy Apple pink, i'm doing everything else but one thing i wont do is the paint job. Its already going to cost $4k to get it painted with candy apple, and if the prepping is all wrong etc it'll all turn to shit and i'm not gunna pay more on top of that because i choose to do it.

Just be very cautious 1stcarbug, its not the sort of paint you should really use if you havent done it before (incase you havent?) I've seen how my panel beater painted my dads car in Candy Apple Red, and whoa, i think i'll leave it to the pro's. I'll do Acrylic and 2pack... but not candy! :D Bloody nice colour when done right though!

DIY-DUB - December 6th, 2005 at 12:26 AM

ive done sprayin b4, just not candies, ill do it myself, and yes practise/experimentaion will happen before i go spray the whole thing, i aint stupid, yes i admit that im not a pro spraypainter but im like dasdubber in a way, dont mind if its not 100% perfect just so long as its the absolute best i could possibly do, some people find thats an admirable quality to have, others think you shouldnt bother, each to their own, im the hands on type, id get no satisfaction from payin someone to do it for me

baybuscamperkid - December 6th, 2005 at 08:59 AM

if no-one stocks the colour see if you can get the code off the guy in the photo, so you can get the candy mixed exactly to spec.

and Commodores and Kingswoods and Falcons

Try Venetian Red from the 70s Holden colour range... or Burgunday (not sure of real name) from VT Commodore

frank2112 - December 6th, 2005 at 11:19 AM

Looks similar to the wifes Inferno Red PT Cruiser in colour.

toplessbug - December 6th, 2005 at 06:34 PM

those are very admirable qualities BUT please take some heed of miss vee dub ,thats why i asked who is on the end of the airline there is painting and there is serious mettalics and you need a lot of experience to use them to effect:beer:beer:beer

crewcabconnection - December 6th, 2005 at 07:55 PM

Sounds like he's got it covered Miss Dub.

helbus - December 6th, 2005 at 08:13 PM

if your painting in candy, make sure u got your runners on! you'll be running up and down the side of the car for a while :D

DIY-DUB - December 6th, 2005 at 09:21 PM

look cut the shit people im doin it myself and dont care what you think, ive done my research, know what im in for, and still wish to do it, if you have a problem with me giving it ago, tough shit, and if you have a shitload of cash to throw at other people to do the work for you, congrats, i dont, nor do i wish to, you cant say its my car i built it if you just paid for it, and yes i understand that to get it to look good you have to be really good, still i believe i will get it 2 a standard im happy with.

DubCrazy - December 6th, 2005 at 10:00 PM

Dude get of the defensive, for the most part people were trying to warn you that candys can be a total bitch to paint and were trying to be helpfull..They are a style of painting that a novice shouldn't attempt but thats not saying it cant be done and done to look good...

Your last post said it all *to your standard* mate as long as u r happy with what it looks like that go for it but u must see that people will look and if its not a top job(not saying u cant do such) they will pick it and nobody likes to hear people say bad things bout there pride and joy..

People were only trying to give u some advice so that u dont get to the end and having spent a heap of money blood sweat and tears and have a car thats not quite as good looking as the amount of effot you put in should dictate ..

As for the colour .. top choice... personaly i am not a fan of reds but the real deep candys look bloody fantastic...

As for where to find it look in the house of kolor range, there are a line of reds that should be what your looking for but be warned they cost.......

best of luck

steff.............................................

Actually no, Helbus's comment is obviously a joke - take a look through the paint and body section and see how much time he devotes to helping people unlike yourself. The difference is he has demonstrated time and time again his assistance and willingness to help, therefore a comment like this is not viewed as serious (hence why only you viewed it that way and no one else). It is your assumption/inference that he "thinks he is the only person who can paint or knows anything about paint" - I am sure many others on here will strongly disagree with you including myself.

I agree with your final comment although would have phrased it differently (but hey thats just me), I urge people to give things a go and have a crack themselves. We shouldn't be discouraging people to DIY regardless of how difficult a process may be. The exception of course is modifying something that will put them or others in danger (eg. having a crack at welding on a new frame head but not really knowing what you are doing). If the candy paint gets screwed, so be it, its the best way to learn (when it costs time and money) - rarely will you make the same mistake again. Who knows, it could come out perfectly.

Louis, your attitude sucks balls (to quote your highly intelligent evaluation of moderators) - if you hate us so much, and have nothing useful to contribute apart from insulting and criticising others, please go elsewhere.
