My 80's ways....
squizy - December 12th, 2005 at 10:39 PM

I've finally dug out my old pics of a couple of my rides from the 80's.

This Notch was original 1 owner, 30,000 mile car with immaculate interior, until a young 19 y.o. had his way with it. I wish I'd just slammed it, and kept it original. Instead it got Cal'ed, a little lowered, graphics, and kept the 1600TP.

The Squareback in the back is a Melbourne car that came up for a Type 3 day we had at Toowoon Bay one year. It was running a Corvair motor - went like stink.

A couple of 1980's Type3's on the foreshore at Gosford.

The kid who bought it off me got inspired by a VW Trends feature car with the new paint scheme. I haven't seen the Notch since.

My KG I did up after the Notch, whilst I was driving around in a 1960 Kombi. I loved the Ghia. She was running a 1640, bugspray, and dual quietpacks. Shocked a few people away from the lights that's for sure.

I still didn't have the interior finished in this 1989 Nambucca shot. I ended up selling it to a guy in Wollongong, who apparently onsold it a few years later to someone on the Northern Beaches. I haven't seen this since either.

Aint that the truth!!

I think a pic of you standing beside one of the these in a thin pink leather tie would just top it all off for me mate. :thumb

ColumBUS - December 14th, 2005 at 08:09 AM

squiz, ive seen your cab, its a beauty...

how on earth di you manage to make two beautiful cars so ugly? the only thing that could be worse is if you managed to abricate plastic body kits for both rides.!
i love it!!! go the 80's! hypercolour t-shirt makes me drool.

DIY-DUB - December 14th, 2005 at 08:33 AM

sorry but im gunna stand out from the rest, i like em, but then again i have some old hotvw's etc mags from that era and have respect 4 the older ways of customising, love the ghia squiz, the notch is ok, until the horrid paint job anyway

squizy - December 14th, 2005 at 08:46 AM

Jace - the moonies were $25 each from Rare Spares - that's all I could afford in those days!

Dame - mate you know me too well. Still got a leather tie in the draw somewhere!!!

Daniel - LOL. Yeah the Type3 turned into a shocker, yet I still made money when I sold it. The KG - mate that was a work of art. What you talkin' about Willis? Smoothed dash, body, indicators relocated behind the front grills, but there aint no plastic ever going near any of my rides.

FCB - the old graphic era was certainly "interesting". I'll have to scan some more pics. I might even get the size right.

VDUBXTC - December 15th, 2005 at 02:45 AM

just playing with ya squiz. I had them on a 64 beetle i had.

But have to agree with FCB on respect for the old cars.
I actually like the Ghia.

But the type 3 well what else can i say. atleast you have taste now.:P

HotRodMatt - December 15th, 2005 at 09:21 AM

Skinny pink leather ties....

Maybe a scooter should have been the go rather than a car, Man.

LOL Matt, funny stuff. Now where's my zoot suit?

HotRodMatt - December 15th, 2005 at 09:33 AM

Squiz,

You could wear your Zoot to Cronulla and it would become a...

Zoot Suit Riot!

Oh god... It's 10:30 and I need a beer. :(

ColumBUS - December 15th, 2005 at 10:15 AM

still got those moon discs? ive got a split beetle project and thats just what i want... as soon as a build a whale tail for it

squizy - December 15th, 2005 at 11:11 AM

Nah they went a long time ago Daniel. Try Rare Spares at Homebush.

PrettyBlueBug - December 21st, 2005 at 06:49 PM

I just went downstairs to speak to my Mum (who's stuck in the 80's), and she had the first 'Back to the Future' movie on....

Anyway, it was up to the bit with Marty in the Delorian getting chased by the guys in.... a blue and white bay Kombi!! :D
I've never noticed it before, mind you, the last time I watched those movies I didn't even drive a car. Anyway, it's a nice Bay!

Don't dis the Moon discs guys. They are an awesome bit of kit with decades of hotrod cred. I was converted to hot dubs on the basis of a yellow chopped beetle in Street Machine Magazine wearing moon discs. If you wanted to do something different, they be a good cheap place to start.

Squizy, both those cars were great 80s cruisers. Don't cry over the mods on the notch. I have a mate who's first car was an solid oval window bug and he used to take it paddock bashing cause it was a crap car in his time. At least you looked after the notch.

zac_smits - December 22nd, 2005 at 07:38 PM

the kg looks fake...it's crazy

ColumBUS - December 23rd, 2005 at 07:25 AM

maybe i could put them on a hebuller...
seriously, i like the moon discs, get them chromed and watch the ricers drool!

irsa76 - December 29th, 2005 at 08:06 PM

While we're all talking '80s flash backs, does anyone remember the chopped yellow square back with the Creative Cars body kit? I remember VW Power doing a feature on it and I thought then that it looked abit so so.

pod - December 29th, 2005 at 08:47 PM

dont knock the pink leather ties still got one somewhere, but alas the outfit it went with is way way to small :D

pete wood - December 30th, 2005 at 11:01 AM

last time time I wore a skinny tie, I was pimply and scrawny with a Johnny Farnham mullet.

damn, can't believe that was 17 years ago now.

I'm getting so old. :o

I've got some pics of it too....obviously from the same era. The front windscreen always had problems fitting, but was something different at least. Number plate then was CHOPT if I remember.

There was also a Type 3 that the Bug Factory at Erina did, which had dropped sills, and the front fenders were cut lower, making a nearly flat nose, with the headlights frenched.

jenz58 - December 30th, 2005 at 08:52 PM

Hmmmmm how to make a KG look bad....put moon discs on it

I am so glad I skipped the 80's somehow :P:crazy:
