Cruise in the next few days - melb
oval TOFU - December 22nd, 2005 at 09:33 AM

Ok you christmas elves, time to stop helping santa and help your vw's feel a part of the celbrations! Who's up for a cruise in the next few days? It'll be good to get one going before the new year is upon us.. then have another one straight after in the new year! I know everyone is busy, so I'm just putting the word out and we'll see if we can all agree on a date and place.

For the locale', I'm thinking... a Mt Dandenong cruise in the late arvo so we can catch the sun set over the city? Or through the nice forest canopies of Belgrave? Or perhaps a cruise down to the beach and just hang out? (well, just chillin' coz I don't want anyone to 'hang out'. I mean, speedos should only be worn by guys in the pool by serious swimmers, not for recreational use; unless it's under ya wetsuit, then it's ok)

So what do all of ya think? (about the cruise, not the speedos.. though, your thoughts of da speedos are welcome too..) :P

blutopless2 - December 22nd, 2005 at 10:00 AM

helbus - December 23rd, 2005 at 09:41 AM

If the date and time are locked in we will endeavour to be there.

The question is should we bring the hectic Helbus, or the cruisy custard tart beetle?

oval TOFU - December 23rd, 2005 at 09:42 AM

both? My 1200 just eats up those inclines you know.. not.. up to you Peteski!

Bring ya CB radios too if ya got em...

hipichic - December 24th, 2005 at 09:56 AM

killakornkobb - December 24th, 2005 at 02:38 PM

cruise is an organised drive with as few people as two.

generally a normal cruise would be 10 + cars

dont need to have a meal or anything just get together and watch the smiles on the other drivers faces when they see a small convoy of dubs pass by, and stop at some point to have a chat inbetween events..

the VW cruisers club also organises quite large cruises.. where there are far more participants, that go for a special occasion eg herbie movie or just cruise chapz

PrettyBlueBug - December 24th, 2005 at 03:11 PM

Wednesday sounds good, 6:45pm @ Maccas FTG... will try to be there! ;)

mscabrio - December 25th, 2005 at 10:29 AM

So that is the time and place?????? Blutopless and I will be there ......

oval TOFU - December 25th, 2005 at 09:55 PM

dat's the time and place! See y'all there..

modulus - December 25th, 2005 at 11:53 PM

FTG? What's an FTG?

oval TOFU - December 26th, 2005 at 02:01 AM

FernTreeGully - Near BarloWorld VW I think

hipichic - December 26th, 2005 at 08:23 PM

got a cruise route planned out yet?

oval TOFU - December 26th, 2005 at 11:30 PM

Good question hipi..

ok, here's what I'm proposing.. it' gives ppl the opportunity to bugout (yes yes, bad pun) if they don't wanna drive so far..

Start at Ferntree Gully Filthhole, I mean, Maccas.
Continue east along Burwood Hwy
Turn left into Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd
Turn left into Ridge Rd
Turn left into Observatory Rd

Check out the sunset *hope it's a clear night!*

Continue along Observatory Rd
Turn left into Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd
Turn left into Sheffield Rd ;)
Turn Right into Liverpool Rd

*There's a 'service rd' at that T intersection where we'll briefly pull over for a small breather and to say goodbye to anyone that want's to leave the convoy from there. For the rest of us who are keen:

Turn right into Canterbury Rd
Go straight at the round-a-bout
Turn right into York St
Turn right at the round-a-bout into Monbulk Rd
Turn right into Main Rd
Then right into Olinda-Monbulk Rd
Turn left into My Dandenong Tourist Rd
Turn right into Mountian Hwy

Then stop at Boronia Shopping Centre somewhere for final good byes

Hows that sound? Is the '2nd' leg of the cruise too much - will anyone be interested in doing it or should we just call it a night after one lap of the mountain? Lemme know your thoughts..

This is a democracy!
u2u me for my mobile if needs be..

If you don't mind a waterpumper joining the fray. I think we might bring the '79 golf out for a stroll seeing as you're circum-navigating my 'hood! You'll hear it coming!

Isn't that Macca's on the south side of Burwood hwy?

UHF cb's?

Pete Jones

oval TOFU - December 27th, 2005 at 09:56 AM

Course not PJ - The more the merrier! I'll see if we can hear your oil burner over my beetle.. Yeh, it's the one on the south side of Burwwod Hwy..

I'm pretty sure my CB are UHF, they're only .5W though with 40 channels, so they're not that powerful, still, they'll be useful none the less..

*did* - December 27th, 2005 at 05:47 PM

I tried. I really did :(

Over the past couple of days I have finished the work needed to get the engine in my bug going again.
This afternoon I fired her up, all was ok except a small oil leak around the bottom pulley.
Went for a lap around the block, a bit hot but other than that all seemed fine.
Went for a second lap around the block, then i was engulfed in smoke. A shitload of oil had leaked out from around the pulley and sprayed onto the exhaust.
The engine has f**k all compression so I didnt expect much luck anyway.
It turns out that the leak is caused by excessive crankcase pressure due to worn rings forcing the oil out from around the pulley. Under normal circumstances the slinger in the pulley would push it back in but the pressure must be too much.
Maybe if I take the cap off the oil filler then that will relieve the pressure and then all will be fine??

This really sucks! I dont think my bug will be making it tomorrow night. I really wanted to cruise again! Even just those two laps of the block were bliss!

oval TOFU - December 27th, 2005 at 09:33 PM

check ya oil level too... my old 1200 had about 50% compression and it still ran, so suss that out.. that's a real poo you can't get it going properly though :(
