I can make out 3 Beetles and a Kombi. Anyone else?

Schmoburger - December 28th, 2005 at 11:45 PM

Er... heres to Spook... If I recall the Atlantean is made by Leyland. :P

Sorry for being petty and lame.. couldnt help myself :)

Spook - December 29th, 2005 at 01:04 PM

I grew up around them. My grandmother owned a bus fleet.
If I know nothing about nothing else, I know my double deckers.

Schmoburger - December 29th, 2005 at 01:44 PM

hehe.... so you'd know thatyt Atlanteans were made by leyland then.. not VW... LOL :D

Don't worry mate... I'm just yankin' yer chain... all good! :beer

I rather like buses myself too... not just the VW variety... :)

Spook - December 29th, 2005 at 02:13 PM

Well, they did have the engine in the back. Makes them more like a VW than the modern VW.s

I did buy back one of gran's fleet to do as a camper. If you want to start a domestic, come home with something 30 feet long & 14 feet high.
The TOP speed of 32mph put me off & a museum has it now.

Schmoburger - December 29th, 2005 at 04:27 PM

Haha! I'd be game I think LOL :D

What museum?

I thinks I could handle a topspeed of 32... if not.. NOS!!!! then SLAM IT!!! MWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!!!

It'd give even the Helbus a run for it's money...SCHWEEET!!!! :bounce

65busser - December 29th, 2005 at 05:32 PM

Ok, my source tells me, the correct spelling of bus in ‘70's pic is "Leyland Atlantean" the chassis of which comes from UK in 1969 a total of 224 where built for Sydney bus routes the 1St going into service 03.05.1970 from the Mona Vale depot.
Anyone know the bus driver's name?

They also had a split windscreen, so they couldn't be all bad eh?

the holden behind the benz looks like a HG, I think they were released in 1970. I know that is irrelavent now the big bus has been dated but I was thinking of that since I opened the pic.

No, I see I've mislead you here. Mine was not an atlantean, I had a 38 titan.

Last I heard of it a bloke had it stored for the historic commercial vehicle mob in Tempe. But seeing as the government want to sell their building out from under them, they have problems of their own.

Desert Moose - December 29th, 2005 at 07:03 PM

is that a notch I see.....? same lane as the beetles and 4 back from the two. :thumb

65busser - December 29th, 2005 at 10:15 PM

Stanley Butler!! Correct. Jeez you crack me up.
I reckon that's a Mini 4 back from the two.
There is another beetle right at the top of the pic on the far inside lane heading towards the camera. Hard to see in this reproduction of the pic.

Spook - December 30th, 2005 at 04:37 AM

Is it just me, or are there no Fords in this picture.

VWSlammer - December 30th, 2005 at 07:59 AM

who can pick where in Sydney the pic is taken?
near the bridge somewhere is my guess, but I am a long way from a local.

if you sacn the pic at a higer res the detail will become clearer

I've posted it before..

http://www.pictureaustralia.org/
and do a 'volkswagen' and 'volkswagon' (heathens)
search..
More dubs than a spaghetty western!
