looking for new tires for my kombi for the big round aus trip. any advice on good hard wearing tires.

I've found that winter-treads are excellent - 195R/14's. They are more noticable in the noise department, but they'll get you to some great places that other tyres won't, and they compare pretty well for on-road grip too. :thumb

I can't remember the brand off-hand, but I still have a few in the shed if you want me to take a look. :)

I know this has come up often, so there will be more in there if you look. Check out a few tyre places and tell them what your needs are and CAREFULLY check your fully laden weight and make sure the tyres are suitable.

i f your cruising i would definately go for the 8 plies amd you will never get a puncture i have got goodyears 185 /75 and they last forever

I was put onto Khumo by my VW specialist.
They are really tough , easier steering , grip well , went good on fuel with first trip with them.
