Wide wheels or stock width? That is the question!
jo_tas - December 28th, 2005 at 02:03 PM

Ok, so i'm getting some new tyres for my notch.. i have a choice, to put them on the set of widened originals i have (15x5.5 i think) or to put them on the stock width originals.

Whats your opinion? I can't decide. :cry

killakornkobb - December 28th, 2005 at 03:54 PM

see! steve knows the score :D

tassupervee - December 29th, 2005 at 12:58 PM

5.5's all round
5.5's all round
5.5's all round

I see that thing of yours around all the time Jotas, hell, Ive even driven it.
Ill run out front of you one day!
I dont think the nice rears/cheesecutter fronts look is going to look quite right on that notch!

Did i say 5.5's all round? No?, K, 5.5's all round!

jo_tas - December 29th, 2005 at 10:15 PM

Ok, ok, Wide wheels it is!

Now... how should i paint them? (as in, what colour) LOL

oval TOFU - December 30th, 2005 at 06:21 AM

If it' a 5-lugger:
Same colour as the body with whitewalls.
Same colour as the body with a white center and whitewalls.
Black with white walls.

4 studder:
aluminium (NOT that crappy silver paint)

THIN MIGHT BE IN, BUT FATS WHERE ITS AT!

baybuscamperkid - December 30th, 2005 at 08:08 AM

ive just finished putting widies (unfortunately 14inchers) on mine, ride is more absorbent, puskhes harder into corners, brakes more stably, and once i got the tyre size sweet (195/70/14 on the rear and 175/75/14 on the front for me) she looks so sweet that people have to take a second look at the wheels even thougth the rest of the car looks like crap. silver or black rims with caps and chrome dress rings looks great

netvampire - December 30th, 2005 at 09:51 AM

just put 5.5 mangels on mine, with 175x65-15's all round. looking at the clearance anything wider would have been right on the guard. but i am lowered.:starhit::starhit:

kingroon - December 30th, 2005 at 03:07 PM

Go wide eberytime.. My '65 Type 1 sits low squat and wide at the back..

jo_tas - December 30th, 2005 at 08:11 PM

Ok.. i was thinking 185 width tyres but maybe i'll go 175.

I'm probably gonna paint them black with porsche nipple caps :D

jo_tas - December 30th, 2005 at 08:14 PM

I painted my stock rims black the other day... looks really cool i think!

(And yes, i know the front panel is a different colour, and theres a dent in the passenger door... yada yada yada) *sigh*

62deluxe - December 30th, 2005 at 10:06 PM

Don't go too wide on a type three. Nothing looks worse than big ballloon tyres on an old dub. The tyre shops always try to talk you into wider tyres because they've got lots- don't listen to them.....

jo_tas - December 30th, 2005 at 11:46 PM

Ok, so 185's the max i should go?

EgeWorks - December 31st, 2005 at 07:27 AM

185s don't look too fat on the front. If you get a decent set of them the difference in braking and handling over stock will be huge provided they don't scrub.
