Does Big Pond Have a throttle?
crewcabconnection - December 28th, 2005 at 09:24 PM

Just vundered....as i get to the end of the month on my Big Pond Unlimited/128k plan ... it's running like a dog ... maybe it's the 12000 meg I've sucked down....used to get everything in an instant, now running slowwwww. It aint the comp, got 3 all on the same router, mac and pc.

Tried to call the 10 year olds that work the help desk, but they swear all is cool...

Anyone out there on Big Pond cable who has similar experience??? I figured unlimited was just that.

Cheers

Unlimited means limited. If youve done your 12 gig then yes you are being throttled down.

join the club mate, its crap. Got the unlimited broadband, its shes been really laggy the last couple of days. Today though its a lil' better than yesterday. Not the 1st time its had a couple day period of sluggin' around.

It usually eases up in a couple of days (from memory of other occurances) Sux ay. Felt like i was back to unreliable dial up yesterday.

We were with Bigpond, but ditched em as its utter crap! Now with Eftel and extremely happy!

thanks, cable has been great over the last 4/5 years, and never had this before, looks like some pricks introduced a new policy - I didn't vote for it, so guess I'll be movin' on.

Don't forget that you you also have to take into account the amount of information you upload with BP as they calculate this as part of of your download.

e.g.: if say you upload a 500meg file to http://www.megaupload.com  to store a file then that 500 meg is classed by BP as a download as well. BP are the only ISP that charges for uploading as well as downloading.

From the Bigpond website in regard to their "Unlimited Cable" plan:

Speeds will be slowed to 64kbps after 10GB
