how did you handle the heat?
amazeer - January 2nd, 2006 at 12:12 AM

I saw a guy driving an aircooled T3. I felt sorry for his poor engine. That was just cruelty.

I had 43 degrees on my thermometer, in the shade, under the pergola.
My house aircon couldnt handle the heat. It gave up after a few hours.
What to do? see a movie... hang out at shopping centre until session time.
Jumped in car and literally could not breathe. I wish I had chucked the thermometer in there for a while before we left.
Mitsubishi aircon is gooood. Cabin temp dropped slowly... unlike engine temp which reached operating in a jiffy.
But shock horror.... westfield was closed. Bastards.
Decided to hang out in mcdonalds for a while. But their aircon was struggling too.
Wonder what work was like today. Aircon there struggles on normal warm days.
Went to cinema and theirs had died too! Might as well watch a movie in the heat than sit at home.
Sweat was pouring down my legs. Narnia movie was OK.
Waited till sun went down and headed to beach. Was there 20 minutes when howling southerly hit and sand blasted our legs off. BASTARD.

Wondering what would have happened if this heat had struck ... today (monday) I'll be sitting at the cricket getting slow roasted and probably plastered as well. Would they have played in todays heat? What would have happened if itwere this hot NYE??? everybody wanting to be out and about, partying, drinking, dehydrating.... there must be a god.

Anyway.... what calculating heat busting methods did you use?

I went to Chaddie - it was actually cold in some areas in there.. and some fit chicks wearing only slighty more than a bikini..

I actually drove around in my bug too - definately used my Hoodjax!

The joy of living 100 yards from the lake.
You raise a sweat, you go for a swim. Dead easy.

ColumBUS - January 2nd, 2006 at 02:26 AM

i spent my new years eve at work... slept in the kombi overnight... woke up at 6 to find i was so hot i couldnt breathe, went to campsite for a shower, back at my next shift at 8. baked in the sun serving hot brunch to hungover partygoers until around 1, left for my paents place in camden. sat in their spa for the remainder of the day. i'm still awake because im waiting for my hair to dry (dreads take a long time)

Closed up the house, and closed all the curtains, then went up to my brothers place and sat in the pool. His aircon was struggling, but the littlies slept. Then checked the smoke coming from the two fronts over Brisbane Water from Gosford - just to make sure things weren't going to head our way. Got back home, and thought bugger this - had some quick dinner, then took the kids out to the beach at 8.30pm for ice cream - it was packed - everyone had the same idea it appears. The southerly came through at 10.00pm so went home and opened up the house. Spent the first part of the night checking the RTA site as to when the F3 would be open again as we had a friend with us who couldn't get home.

Kudos to the firies. 7 of them parked their cars to go and fight fires, only to find that they'ed lost their cars to fires when they got back.

akean1 - January 2nd, 2006 at 08:10 AM

loved it, battled public transport to the beach, few brews and chilled in the sea:tu:

buzzbug - January 2nd, 2006 at 08:17 AM

sat in the lounge with two fans and an portable aircon unit infront of me.
was very close to taking the laptop and a DVD and going and sitting in the forester with the aircon on.

Lee.

pete wood - January 2nd, 2006 at 09:33 AM

Went to church in the morning. very very hot. So hot in fact that Liz threw up with morning sickness although she's over halfway through her pregnancy.
:puke :sniffle:

Then stayed home in the ducted air and my oldies came back for lunch. Love my ducted air. Only got up 27 in the hottest room in the house late in the day. Every hour or so I went out and poured a large watering can of water on the aircon heat exchanger. Worked like an intercooler water spray system. :thumb

We just layed around while my 23month old daughter ran round like an idiot. Got take away thai for dinner and blobbed again until the change came through about 10pm. My oldies left after midnight to go home to their non aircon house.

Grey 57 - January 2nd, 2006 at 09:45 AM

drove up the hume to my parents place in the convertable with the top down in the 40+ heat. The novelty of the 306 convert hasnt worn off with the Mrs yet. Wasnt too bad with the windows up and the air cond on full. The poor dog suffered in the back a bit tho. Outside temp reading was 44 at one stage. She gave in and put the roof up about 20 mins from our destination.

Couldn't leave house due to fires so close, so sweated it out. Packed bags at 10:00pm ready for evacuation. Initial wind change was south westerly which drove fire up the ridge just behind us. Wind then turned more southerly which pushed fires along the ridge away from my suburb.

Kudos to the firies also!!

What’s the go with the weather......?
We froze on New Years Eve. I was only 12deg at midnight and windy here in Perth. I think you guys have our weather and we have yours. We will be lucky to see 30deg this week, the coldest summer I have seen in Perth since I have been here in 9 years.

hipichic - January 2nd, 2006 at 02:26 PM

drove to mums in the TinkerBeetle...swam in her pool with the kids....then sat all drippy wet in the shade on the nice cool grass :)

Schmoburger - January 2nd, 2006 at 02:36 PM

Let's see... spent the day roasting in 6 million degree temperatures, despite full aircon, 2 fans and wet towels hung from the roof, sitting on MacAddict, and subconsiously preying that a bushfire does not start while the Kombi has no engine in it... :jesus

That cold change in the late arvo was soooo beautiful!

rose - January 2nd, 2006 at 02:51 PM

Sat in house all day love the ducted air a nice 25 degrees a/c 7.5 hp didn't struggle at all, just had to bring the little dogies inside as well. To hot to go outside it was 45 degrees in the shade under our patio. Yes i'm spoilt and my puppies.

I used my Hoodjax!! :thumb

Actually, I sat on the cold concrete floor under my parent's garage and started sorting out my Country Buggy wiring harness... The shell (stored outside) was too hot to touch. I think I saw 46 deg on my other car's climate control
