Porsche first put the twin overhead cam flat four in the 550 Spyder in 1954 in 1.6-litre form. Later, 356 coupes with the twin-cam engine were called
Carreras. The last 1.6-litre engines got up to 165 hp, and in 1961 they went to 2-litres. The 356 coupe version was the Carrera 2, and the maximum
development was the race-tuned version in the Porsche 904 race car of 1963-65, which produced over 190 hp. After that, Porsche moved onto 6, 8 and
12-cylinder engines.

There's is guy in the states that is casting cases and forging cranks etc to allow the use of the 911 engine components in a 4 cylinder quad cam
engine.
my mate has one of these in his 356 A right here in Brisbane
I would love to have a look at the 356 with the 4 cam next time in Brisvegas..any chance?
