Good days work today on the Beetle
helbus - January 10th, 2006 at 10:01 PM

I had a day off today, so I spent the day stripping some bits and pieces off the smashed KOC beetle and onto the new Custard Tart KOC beetle.

I swapped the front windscreen as it was only two years old, along with the rubber. The Tart windscreen was the original 1971 toughened glass with the original rubber, never been out of the car. There was no rust, and true to originality there was no windscreen sealer. They relied on the rubber only.

Made it a much easier job. Yes I did put a small amount of D-mastic sealer on the rubber when I reinstalled it.

I also swapped the CD player, wiring and speakers as the Tart only had some $79 special CD player that didn't always take CD's into it's possesion. The Koc had a VDO. I know it's not exactly top of the line unit, but Fleur likes it. It is all black too, so looks much nicer in the dash.

Not bad,
so let me get this straight... in one day you have managed to get the new beetle in better shape than I have gotten my type III in a year.... bugger I am slow :(

how's ya back after all that?

are you healing up well?

helbus - January 11th, 2006 at 09:21 AM

Took it easy on the back and had no problems. It was good to be productive again. :)

The old windscreen was so sandblasted it looked like frosted glass :duh

frosted eh? our windscreen on our Suzuki is so scratched the wipers won't clean it properly any more, so I know what you mean.:td:

BTW, when do they send you back to light duties? I spose your off to a physio at the mo right?

Yeah definitley will need the manifold. I am putting the beetle in to get work done with my mechanic in a couple of weeks, so I could get it fitted then, unless you are keen to give it a go :). We could do it after hours in his workshop in Box Hill.

I don't have a garage at the moment and my tools are in storage, so that makes doing stuff at home really hard now.

The same goes for the struts. I will get the mechanic to pull them out and dissasemble them with the spring compressor, and then I will lower the cups. My MIG is in his workshop, so I can do that there. New shorter inserts are about $80 each, so that's what I will do there.

New ball joints, tie rod ends, bush kit and damper also have to go in. Just too much original stuff on that front end.
