1937 KDF wagen manual
vanderaj - March 29th, 2003 at 11:01 AM

I was at my dealer this morning getting them to order me a new speaker and diverter valve.

The dealer who turned up at the thingy last November had been *given* a 1937 KDF wagen owner's manual!

It's in amazingly good condition, and the gentleman who gave it to them was German and must have picked it up whilst in Germany. The interior is really nice in terms of layout, and it's got a nice embossed cover. The centre pages have an illustration of the guts of the car, which is amazingly close to the final Beetle in most respects.

If you're near Werribee, make a pilgrimage and ask to see the KDF manual. It's amazing.

I have one of the repro which has the coloured clear plates inside it and you layer yr way through the car in cross section.

I paid just over 400 DM which would have been about $350au which was alot for a book about 10 years ago(in my opinion).if you follow the pointers to the edge of the book from the part you are looking at it will guide you straight to the right page as it is cut out on the edges.

It's exactly the same as KDF King's manual. :) No it's not the repro. Nice!

Do either of these manuals have the embossed swassticker on the cover ??? or the cogged wheel ???

KDFking - March 31st, 2003 at 09:53 AM

There have actually been 2 reprints of this manual, one in the late 70s and a better one in the 90s but none come close to the original.the first 2 pages of mine have been ripped out as that is where the kdf sign(swastica in the cogwheel) was pictured among other things.this manual originaly came with a blue dust cover which says "der kdf wagen von a bis z" but i took this off when i took the photo as it is only a color copy of the original dustcover.the last page contains copyrights and place of printing(volkswagenwerk gmbh berlin) and a price of RM 2.50 (reichs marks)

very nice brochure!

just thought I'd share something else interesting. In early WWII British
Intelligence got hold of a type 82 sedan and a kubelwagen and gave them to
Ford, Humber, Singer, Solex and A.C. cars to pull completety apart and report on.

The report (was classified) was produced by the British Intelligence Objectives Sub-
Committee and has mechanical and body cross sections, measurements,
schematics, wiring diagrams of just about absolutely everything on the 82 sedan
and kubel. They drove this things, tested the socks of em and then pulled em
completetly apart !.......

(the kubel wiring diagrams on vintagebus.com came from this document...)
