Stealth - March 31st, 2003 at 08:10 PM

Is this true? Are the Organisers throwing in the towel? To hard basket?

Mate - please do some checking before posting this type of thing! :/

I just spoke to Chris Harper. It's absolutely on.

I'll adjust this thread title to reduce confusion.

Andrew

Flying VW - March 31st, 2003 at 09:03 PM

I've also heard that the Bug in has been cancelled or the Format has been drasticly changed does any body know if this is true.
Or is it just a rumour ???.

Jay_1965vw - March 31st, 2003 at 09:23 PM

This is a rumour only. Please refer to other post.

Jay

vanderaj - March 31st, 2003 at 09:26 PM

I don't know who is spreading these rumors, but please stop.

I *RANG* Chris Harper, the director of the 2003 Bug In, and *ASKED* him. The Bug In is still on.

At best, the rumors are scurrilous. To say he was pissed is an understatement.

I will simply be deleting any more threads that contain this rumor. It is *not* true.

Andrew

Flying VW - March 31st, 2003 at 09:27 PM

Well I couldn't reply to it because a Forum Dictator closed it.
And I heard the rumour from a reliable source.

vw54 - March 31st, 2003 at 09:28 PM

Its still on as far as i know... I aint herd any rumors where do they come from ???

vw54 - March 31st, 2003 at 09:32 PM

Its still on as far as i know...
why would they cancel it ???

Flying VW - March 31st, 2003 at 09:33 PM

I must admit I got it second hand but it's getting around.
Well I'm glad to hear it's still on.

vanderaj - March 31st, 2003 at 09:35 PM

Fer christ's sake, the rumor is false! Either of you should have rung Chris Harper (phone number is on the Bug In site) before posting. You could have determined without spreading Fear Uncertainty And Doubt.

You two are respected in the VW scene, and saying those sort of things can make things take on a life of their own. It'll take days for this one to die.

You owe it to everyone to check facts prior to spreading the rumors. It was easy enough to do. I did it within two minutes of learning of Anthony's post.

This rumor affects people who have invested a lot of time and money, and affects all potential attendees (which could number hundreds).

As it's so close to defamation, I am very much in mind to simply delete both threads and get a written statement from Chris in the morning.

Whoever is spreading it is not doing the VW scene any favors. Please stop now - or get someone like Chris Harper (ie one of the organizers) to post an official statement to the Bug In web site.

I bet the latter wont happen.

Andrew

Stealth - March 31st, 2003 at 09:37 PM

MATE! Leave my post alone! I really hate being censored and then lock the post so I could not reply! THIS IS A FORUM! to ask and question what is going on in the VW world, If it was on then I would have been told otherwise, not by YOUR way.

Quote:I'll adjust this thread title to reduce confusion.

No thank you, I will adjust it back to avoid the confusion that you have placed on me and my original post.

vanderaj - March 31st, 2003 at 09:40 PM

I did not censor a single letter of your post. I only adjusted the title and locked the thread because it's so close to being defamatory it's not funny.

I am attempting to get an official statement from Chris Harper now.

Please tell us who the person is who is spreading the rumor. I really wonder where their loyalties lie. It's certainly not the Australian VW scene.

And Anthony, I expected you to check your facts before posting. You are very well respected in the VW scene and people believe you when you say something. It would have taken 30 seconds to check your facts with the organizers before spending a minute or so posting. Imagine if someone had done the same thing to a Cruise event?

Andrew

Flying VW - March 31st, 2003 at 09:41 PM

Well as far as I can see we were both just looking for answers which we now both have.

IM VERY SORRY TO USE THE FORUM AS A SOURCE OF IMFORMATION.

Stealth - March 31st, 2003 at 09:43 PM

You do that

Flying VW - March 31st, 2003 at 09:49 PM

HEY ANDREW
Now that BLK BUGS question has been unblocked you can Delete this thread.
I know you will enjoy that.

vanderaj - March 31st, 2003 at 09:54 PM

This forum is a good source of information - and rumors. :) That's half the problem.

In this case, it would have been easier and faster for two respected people to check their facts prior to posting a second- or third-hand rumor than it was to actually post. And why start a second thread when it was obvious that the rumor was false and therefore deserved to be changed and locked? I checked using a first hand primary source (ie the organizer), therefore I have every right to kill the thread before the rumor gains currency and potentially destroys what will probably be a great event (last year's was great).

This type of thing makes me sad that people can be so petty trying to destroy the good work of others. Our scene is so small, we just don't need this sort of grief.

Andrew

vanderaj - March 31st, 2003 at 09:56 PM

Merged the two rumor threads together.

Andrew

Stealth - March 31st, 2003 at 09:58 PM

Destroy????? you have got to be kidding!

Man, it was a question NOT a statement.

My post never said anything about a rumour.

Stealth - March 31st, 2003 at 10:01 PM

And to reply to your question about a cruise event. I would answer it as you know I would, STRAIGHT to the point, yes or no.........then the facts.

I merged the two threads rather than deleting either.

I don't know where you get off saying that I enjoy thread deletion. So far I have *accidentally* deleted one thread due to a bug with XMB. I don't like censorship, and I will not delete this thread. I didn't delete any of Anthony's original post, even though it would have covered this forum's collective legal arse much better if I had.

However, as it is totally inaccurate and a simply reporting of what is potentially a malicious rumor, if the Bug In organizers ask me to, I WILL delete this thread as it IS defamatory and will prejudice the Bug In if the rumor gains credence.

Fair notice.

Andrew

Flying VW - March 31st, 2003 at 10:17 PM

IT WAS A BLOODY QUESTIN.

That could be easily answed by somebody in Sydney who knows whats going on.

The questin has been answerd and now we can get on with life. Your the one who is carry on and talking down to us like we are naughty little kid's.

I thought the idea of the Forum was to communicate with the rest of the Volkswagen scene in Australia.
I dont think asking a Questin is going to make the Bug in Fail.

vanderaj - March 31st, 2003 at 10:37 PM

It wasn't just a question. It was asking about a very nasty rumor (and thus is a malicious rumor), which gave additional weight to the rumor which it didn't deserve to get. I tried to stop it in its tracks by closing the thread which is as much effort as this particular rumor deserved. If you all had simply believed my primary source research, it would never have gotten this far (or a second thread).

It wouldn't have taken very much to find out the real story. My conversation went like this:

Q "Is it true that the Bug in has been cancelled or drastically changed?"

A "NO! Who told you that load of rubbish?"

Hopefully, I'll have something from the organizers tomorrow to make this entire stupid thing go away.

Andrew

vanderaj - March 31st, 2003 at 10:51 PM

I just got off the mobile with Rick Feruglio, who was understandably a bit miffed that this rumor is making the rounds, especially so close to the event.

Here's the program:
http://www.flatfour.org/bugin2003.html

The Bug In has NOT changed. It IS still running. If you're interested in attending any of the events, please use the registration form within the web site to register your attendance.

Rick's organized a cruise to the Nationals on the Sunday as well, which should help those who want to cruise rather than compete.

He and Chris are nice blokes, who have put in a lot of effort, and it's a shame that's there's someone around doing the dirty on this truly national event. Shame on them!

Anthony and Andrew - tell your sources that they are wrong, and to stop spreading the rumor.

Anyway, enough from me, Rick will post on the forum tomorrow night with more details about the Bug In.

Andrew

jenz58 - March 31st, 2003 at 10:55 PM

From reading this thread a rumour must have come from a very credible source and taken as a possible fact only a few hours ago (evening?)

Where else would someone go to get answers but the forum were we have Sydney/ other Aussie vee dubbers online and willing to answer questions and put things straight.

Answers usually do come without any need for action from administrators. VW54 responded 1 hour later and I'm sure others would have.

Someone heard something and asked a question. Chill

I like the irony. "forum dictator" and "power hungry" ... that's so me. :)

I hope you all realise that I have absolute power and thus you are all my minions, enslaved to me forever? bwahahaha!

Extra :kiss for the humor impaired! :)

KOM123 - April 1st, 2003 at 01:15 AM

As a newbie to any Bug-In, I phoned Rick last Friday to ask a few general questions. He was very friendly and informative and told me to drop by for a cuppa and a chat sometime. I did so on the Saturday and was warmly greeted by him and his family and whilst I was there he was still taking phone calls about the Bug-In. In fact whilst I was there he was giving details to a caller from Queensland who was coming down and he said nothing to indicate that the event wouldn't be on.

I'm not taking sides in any argument, just giving a first hand account of what I have experienced and that is, as far as I know it's on :)

Stealth - April 1st, 2003 at 07:54 AM

You see! Easy isn't it.....ask a question....get an answer...it's not hard.

Glad it is on, coming up for two show and shines/swap meets in the one weekend is what was my plan in the first place, see you there.

jenz58 - April 1st, 2003 at 08:37 PM

Sweet:)
