Type 3 Instrument Panel
gtl1955 - March 5th, 2006 at 08:18 PM

Today I tried to remove the fuel guage and clock on my fasty's instrument panel. How does one remove these beasts? I tried bushing from the back and pulling from the front but they wouldn't move. Are there any tips?

thanks Greg

There are metal tabs at 3 and 9 o'clock. Squeeze and slide thru the retainer ring.

Makes it easy if you remove the fuse box so you can get your hands right in there.

thanks for the tip mat, i gotta do it soon to my speedo. is it the same on all the guages?

yes the speedo is the same dont forget you push the gauge forward out through the hole while pressing the clips into the gauge.

If you do the speedo first and pull it out, it gives you better access to the others.

Also after rewiring a lot of my dash I found it easier to pull the seat out and lay under the dash.

Also.. sometimes you have to push them back a little, while squeezing the tabs, before you can slide them out, as they can get caught on the rim of the hole!

what jo_tas said. just did mine tonight, need smallish hands and a bit of a backwards push to unlock. so exited now my dash has a $5 VDO Tacho and a $10 Tripmeter speedo

they're a bugger to get out, if you don't fancy unscrewing the fuse box just unsnap the air vent tubes and get at them from the side.

it is possible to do it without removing vents or fusebox, but you need to be flexible and have strong thin hands!
