Currently I'm in Malta (half way between africa & italy) and i'm slowly trekking my way through europe.
Germany will only be a short visit so I ask you good people this:
If I was to visit one vw related site in Germany what would/should it be?
Wolfsburg Museum , of course!!! I found this info on the web, maybe you could get a tour of the factory too as it is nearby.
VW Factory Museum
The VW factory museum is NOT located on the factory grounds. It is within walking distance, though and is located at:
AutoMuseum Wolfsburg
Dieselstrasse 35
3180 Wolfsburg 1
Tel. 053 61/5 20 71
Find the main street in front of the train station and walk along it away from the factory. A few blocks past the overpass is the museum.
Entry into the museum is DM 3.00 (currently about $0.70/DM). There is a small gift shop with a slightly larger and slightly more expensive collection
that the factory shop. Credit cards are not accepted. Hours are from 10:00 to 17:00 daily, although it is closed from 24Dec to 1Jan.
Inside the museum are a 1934 Bug prototype, a 1936 Bug, the 1,000,000th Wolfsburg Bug, the 20,000,000th Wolfsburg Bug, the last Wolfsburg Bug, some
bugs from Ireland, South Africa, and Mexico, Herbie the Love Bug, a Schwimmwagen, a few Type IIs, a gorgeous type 34 (type 3 Karmann Ghia), some nice
type 3 prototypes, and much more.

that may be outdated information.
the factory tour now leaves from the Autostadt, which is also in Wolfsburg, you really can't miss it as it pretty much IS Wolfsburg. Look for the
two very large glass towers that house customers cars awaiting pickup, or the ritz carlton. Wolfsburg museum is seperate place but also a must see,
but definately go to Autostadt....

I have been to Germany & I think the AutoMusuem is the best place to visit as it has a large collection to see & only vw's. where as Autostradt has
many other vehicles from other countries.
AutoMuseum is located in Dieselstrasse 35
38446 Wolfsburg
10-5pm
