How to tell the year of a splitty
Wag67 - March 10th, 2006 at 08:28 PM

So how do i tell the year of a splitty and where do i look for the chasis number / compliance plate

compliance plate behind front seat on later models, semaphores = pre 59, bullet front indicators = pre 63 (approx), big round indicators are the later ones. think those no.s are about accurate. there are a million detail changes that an expert can pick up to tell each year apart, but i dont know them

so far i have found the following numbers
typ 2/23 on compliance plate which is in the engine bay
330833 just under plate
kAk 4566 on other side of engine bay
do any of these tell me the year. we think it may be somewhere around 58 by looking at photos. also the fuel tank is sitting on top of the gearbox so that makes it after 55, i think

Mine also starts 330 (I can't remember the rest & it's too far away to find out)

One book I have says it's 57, but the rest say 58.
The brake light being seperate to the tail lights make it 57.
