History Channel bug build
66deluxe - March 13th, 2006 at 07:50 AM

There is a show on Pay tv's History channel called Full Throttle, and they have 2 67 bugs and they are pulling out the stock trans and engine and replacing them with 2165cc SCat motors and high performance Rancho trans then they are running em down the 1/4 mile. The guys that are doin it don't have a clue one guy wanted to cut the rear valance to pull the engine out. They have been given 8 hours for the full swap. Is a cool show but i did cringe at some of their techniques, pretty scary. I was shakin me head, cause i can get a trans and engine out and back in in like 4 hours. Other than that there is some well known dub legends appearing like TOM LIEB founder of SCAT, Rich Kimball from HOT VW'S etc. Hope You all get to catch this 1 hour long episode, Cheers Damo.

I saw this show last night, fantastic!

two teams of guys had to work on two stock 1500 engined US 67 bugs

they had 24 hours to change the engines over to full race scat 2.1 engines and Rancho race transmissions.

They than had to race against each other on a 1/4 mile strip and the winners got to keep both cars.

The cars although stock engined were fully restored prior to the show with new interiors and full respray, they were the cleanest bugs i have ever seen you could your dinner off the underside and even the stock motors were spotless.
Unfortunately both teams wired the distributors up the wrong way round and fried them so they had to use the ones out of the 1500 motors. still even with that, one team managed to do the 1/4 in 14 secs at 94 mph
nest week they will do the same with two 1964 mustangs.
last week they did 1964 Chevy impalas. In a future show they are doing two Old 1960's Mini coopers.
