anyone order a large serve of multi colour chinese noodles and a side of cat??:P
driving in the rain yesterday i started to get dripping on my feet and out of my fuse box
i suspect its coming from the fresh air fan drain
anyone know what else could be leaking its not rubbers or rust, i got new wcm rubbers when the car was resprayed
i forgot what a horrible ball of wiring was hiding up under my dash, by the time i added an alarm, remote keyless entry, remote boot release, extra
gauges, 850watts of audio, phone cradle and various other goodies i had one hell of a tangle of wires lol
always makes for fun chasing wiring problems

ha! i thought mine was bad...not much room under there, is there! is that a dash reskin?
stick your head under the fresh air box and look along toward the glove box bulgy bit..i found a small hole rusted through in that spot that seems to
be related to the drain and communicates with interior under the dash...if i hose hard into the air intake i get a dribble of water into the
cabin....maybe something similar?
Ask the cat to sort it out?
bet a beer it is the air box.
It will be coming into theair box from the grates out side and there is suppose to be a drain there.
2 problems
The drain blocks up
The drain is at the back of the box.
If you can have a look round you will see there is a plastic tube in the centre of the front "frame head?" near the gear stick
this is the drain tupe from the air box.
It could be split or knocked off You can almoct see it in the first pic
The other problem that occurs is that stupid plate that covers the air box never seals properly.
If your car parks nose down then the water doesnt have a chance to run out the back drain hole.
It leaks on top of the petrol tank down the back trough the myriad of holes and out where you said.
The simplest fix is to go to Clarke Rubber and get some fridge magnet rubber.
Cut a piece out that will cover the grilles. Just have to cut round the window washer thing.
This will stay there and keep the rain out.
When you dont want it on just peel it off and stick inside the hood till the next time you want it.
good idea barry with the fridge magnet sheet
i normally just keep a roll of duct tape in the car 4 when the weather gets nasty or i wash it
my drain seems fine but i did afew years back trim it a bit to get a head unit to fit and sealed it up with silicon but ive already checked that
one of those frustrating things like finding rattles lol

I have this exact same problem on my car when it rains! Water goes into the fresh air vent thingo and some goes down that tube and ends up dripping on
my feet! My car is in at the panel beaters at the moment. maybe i should ask him to weld a metal plate over that front grill? what do you think?? is
it legal etc etc?? thanks guys
That is what I shall be doing when I get my car reprayed. I covered mine with yellow gaffa the other night because I's sick of getting wet feet when driving in the rain. I cant see it being illigal at all. I can see it effecting the fresh air fan though. I'm not bothered.
Personal opinion - cut the bloody grille out and make it flush.
Leave the plate out inside so it sucks air for the demister from inside the boot area if ya that worried
hmmm old thread
problem with mine was i had dislodged the drain fitting one of the head units
another reason not to like 1303 supers....
the air box on My 68 beetle is plastic....
it will never leak and never rust....
hose cannot dislodge easily either....

yeah but flat screens have a worse problem, alot of people have had damaged radios cos the air box leaks water all over them cos they rarely seal off to the hood properly
Hi
Leigh H. did a thing with the air box on his wifes car, he made a stainless tray under the vents with a hose running to the drain hole.
I'm going to do the same thing with a piece PVC pipe, cut in 1/2.
Steve
Just spoke with my panel beater about cutting the air vent out and welding a flush piece of metal where the vent was and he is going to do it
no more leaks for me!! although he wasnt exactly the happiest when i told him
because they are almost onto the painting stage but i dont care! as long as i dont get water in my car im happy! no beetle should have to suffer a
cairns wet season!!
