I don't know if this has been done before, but thought it may be good for discussion with some many new people joining every week - like me!
So....what is everyone's favourite bit of road?
My faves are:-
- The Old Pacific Hwy, but is now ruined by too many police, and too many Sunday drivers.
- Pacific Hwy Peats Ridge - head north on the F3, and turn off before Mooney Mooney Bridge and follow the Peats Ridge signs. Lots of empty dual
carriage way [as everyone sticks on the F3], with some nice sweepers.
- Not sure of the name, but turn right when you get off Wisemans Ferry [or go left and have a beer in St Albans], and the road goes through Gunderman,
along the north shore of the Hawkesbury River. Great views, a bit bumpy, but well worth it. It comes out at Somersby, so you can then go back via the
Old Pacific Hwy.
Squiz.......
Yeah the pacific hwy is good if you can get a fairly clean run.
Bells Line is great.
Peats Ridge is good for weekend get togethers with mates, theres a good spot for some 1/4mile action....
The driftway and alot of the back roads to the Blue Mountains are good fun too.
The Great Ocean Road. It gets too packed in the summer though.
The old Pacific Hway at Bulladelah, no speed cameras anymore. It's also used as a hillclimb now and then.
I have to kill you if I tell you mine...
C704 - fast sweepers.
The road from Apollo Bay (near Kennett River) to the A1. Nice forest drive
The backside of Mount Macedon
The bit between Bullengarook and Daylesford - forest / ridge driving, twisty bits.
Great Ocean Road at night, not great views, but a very technically challenging drive... and nearly empty.
The side of Mt Baw Baw... in the summer
Between Bright and Mt Hotham... in the summer / autumn
Andrew
Mt Dandenong tourist road! Coming down towards burwood hwy.
Not one car I've taken down there has'nt suffered brake fade, big time (the AU with four wheel vented disks would'nt even let me
activate the ABS by 3/4s of a way down)
Rather interesting taking the left hander after devils elbow, tail out and traffic coming the other way. But I've never gotten a red light at the
bottom though and have always had to swing it left up the hill towards belgrave.
tunz uv fun

the currumbin valley road into the nat park. its awesome, use to be open speed limit, nows its 70, u can only get that on the starights. Also the road from the valley road across the border to mawullimbah (i can't remeber the spelling) nice tight mountian trail, that opens onto sugar cane fields. Also any roads around the sushine coast hinterland, but cops patrol those.
i agree about the old pacific hwy. but you forgot Ku-ring-gai Chase. lots of fun.
late nights on the New ENgland Hwy between Bendimeer and just south of Uralla, great for playing the MPH game. the road from Armidale to Ebor, lots of
nice fast corners, plus the Dorrigo Mountain (if that is what it is called) is fun when you find it with no traffic.
squizy i agree fully about the St Albains pub, but not so much about the road to Mangrove Mtn, you should try the road Buckety-Wollombi-Broke. BTW if
you do drive this rod there is a really evil corner (it has a slow speed sign on it)as you are start decending into the valley for the first time,
possibly called simpsons hill or ramseys leap?

Dorrigo - Armidale is also a great drive.
:bounce
Nambucca - Armidale in 1.75 hrs; whahoo
:o
past Garie beach in National Park, 6 am
There are some great roads in WA (including some nicely sealed private roads - speed limits don't actually apply.) But the nicest road to drive in Oz would have to be the Great Ocean Road in Victoria...
I forgot the Monaro Hwy between Orbost and Canberra and portions of the Kings Hwy between Bateman's Bay and Canberra.
Andrew
I second that Andrew, nothing like porsches, nothing like them at all! Doing 180 past the cruisers must have been a BLAST!!! particularly in third
:o
A flat six... man I want one :cry
Mont Albert Rd in Melbourne, for starters. Smallish road over hung with big old trees, nice old houses, and cicadas in summer making a racket. My kids
still say how they loved driving down it.
GOR or anywhere with great ocean views and nice country side.
Always love driving to Qld. Get excited when scenery becomes tropical - mountain ranges, huge rivers, lush greenness, the smell of sugar cane
The road out the back of Gloucester that goes through the Nowendoc up into Walcha and then on into Armidale.Spectacular views along the top of the
tableland.
PAUL
the road to the Pobjoys at Coffs Harbour,
want to get up there soon
how about going over the daintree river in qld in cape tripulation full over hanging rain forest used to hire those little convertable 4 wheel drives when in cairns and cruz up there, stay at backpackers with hudge pool and bar,got stuck in the river at night once but thats another story.:party:beer
Warburton road, thru Warb., Reefton Spur Rd., into Marysville thru the back door then home via the Black Spur. 4 wheels good any time, 2- watch out after rain (what's that??)- lots of little rivulets crossing the Black Spur road.
Probably not the most driven of roads, but i sure enjoy it... Montville-Palmwoods road, Sunshine coast... nothing quite like zig-zagging your way down
a mountain!
also the Barrier higway is pretty spectacular for sunsets and general outback weirdness, roos included!
My favourite bit of road would have to be the new england highway, especially the cunninghams gap bit!:thumb
Any beach road, or better still any beach:thumb:thumb:thumb
I'll agree with that. Beach driving is a buzz!! :thumb
