Hmmmmm...most boring looking un-hot "Porsche motor" I've ever seen!

Prob comes down to the whole "My VW's engine was designed by Mr Porsche" ego-trip bullshit again me reckons.... when will they learn? :(

helbus - May 5th, 2006 at 04:42 PM

I cant notice any difference to our 1971 Beetle with original twinport 1600. :duh

Ich fahre ein Kdf ein Tag - May 5th, 2006 at 05:31 PM

What engines did they put in those 914s? Volkswagen made the same car too dont think it sold here?

Bizarre - May 5th, 2006 at 05:39 PM

The 914/4 and 912E cane with a 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0 Type 4 motors.
ie a modified Bay kombi motor

bugbrained - May 5th, 2006 at 05:57 PM

i think he's been dreaming

Chewy - May 5th, 2006 at 06:07 PM

By his logic the whole car is a porche.

warb - May 5th, 2006 at 06:15 PM

also, it looks like they bolt straight in...

Schmoburger - May 5th, 2006 at 06:21 PM

Yeah Chewy..that's what I was getting at... some lameass trying to dress up mutton as lamb based on a convenient, weak-ass urban myth.

True, the 914 did use basically the same engine as the late bay kombi... more or less anyway... but it is for one, an almost entirely different motor, and the situation is rather that an existing VW engine was modified to suit being used in a mid-engined Porsche... not the stupid "My Kombi has a Porsche engine!" crap. Porsche used a VW engine not the other way around.

But to some... especially those trying to make money or feed there ego.. ignorance is bliss. :jesus

I saw an old ad in a book for a Porsche 914. It proudly boasted "0-100 in 12 seconds". WOW! Almost as fast as a Hyundai.... good for its day though I imagine.

ColumBUS - May 5th, 2006 at 08:42 PM

maybe someone should tell him its not a porsche motor, othrwise there will be a very unhappy buyer out there, or failing that, the car will never sell

Hi Barry

The 4 cylinder in the 912 was different to a Type 4 motor, they were more like a 356 motor.

Isnt it amazing how many people spell Volkswagen with a "on" on the end. A Volkswagon must be a trailer for a VW?

http://www.912registry.org/history.htm

912s continued in production in 1969 until the introduction of the mid-engine, Targa style 914 and 914-6 in late 1969. Ironically, after production of the 914 ceased in late 1975, the fuel-injected 912E model appeared in 1976, powered by a 2.0 liter 914-derived engine. When 912E production ended, Porsche had constructed 34,959 of the Type 912/912E model.

"whew" .....

Hi

This is a 356 style engine in a 912. I cant find any reference to a 2 litre type 4 engine in the 912 E in my Porsche parts program, I wonder what sort of cooling system they used? The earlier 356 style ones looked very beetle like.
