Yes it reminds me of the Brasilian TC Karmann Ghia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Karmann_Ghia#Karmann_Ghia_TC 

If I remember correctly 1965 TC Studie formed the design basis for the Brasilian KG.

the rear of the roof on that thing is almost identical to a puma

Yes, Its Brazillian....

they also did have different looking Karmann Ghias in Brazil

they had lots of prototypes and lots made it into manufacture too.....

As much as I understand the prototype was obviously a possible replacement for the Razor Edge Ghia but was canned, then VW do Brasil took the project redesigned shell to suite there tastes and voila.
