bugbrained - May 11th, 2006 at 04:15 PM

hey guys and gals just letting you no if you recieve a email called 'invitation ' even though sent by a friend dont open it shut down your pc immediatly . its a virus that opens a olympic torch that 'burns the whole hard disc of your pc ' .
its been classified by microsoft as the most destructive virus yet there is no repair for this virus it simply destroys the zero sector of the hard disc where vital imformation is kept .
also another email doing the rounds is along the lines 'osama bin laden captured ' or 'osama hanged ' dont open the attachment , it will crash your computer and you wont be able to fix it .
hope this helps anyone out ..........

Cheers. Theres nothing worse than tech boffins with a chip on their shoulder. I liked the good ol' days when they just used to bring in their sniper rifle and sit on top of tall buildings. That's why postmen wear fluro coloured jackets. So the SWAT Team can get a clear shot at them!!

just makes ya wonder are we just pawns in a large corporate chess game . i could just see bill gates rubbing his gready little hands to-gether as the snotty nosed geek he employes to come up with time wasting destructive viruses . actually lmaoooo instead of a firewall they need to come up with a rubberwall that stopped the herpes virus :o

Just googled the olympic torch virus, Classified as a HOAX(another urban legend)

sinecure - May 11th, 2006 at 06:28 PM

NEVER put faith in a virus with a HOAX classification. As soon as this classification is given, a hacker will develop a very nasty virus and use the parameters of the HOAX to distribute.

I dont know if your ISP allows you to access your mail online, mine does and Im able to delete dodgy looking emails online instead of downloading them and finding out the hardway.

repercussions? unlikely. after all, macintosh have been running their operating systems on intel hardware for the past 10 years, and not to mention most versions of windows on macintosh hardware as well.

how many years has it been with OS X and no virii? they even had a competition about a year ago with $50K to the first person/team to design one that could copy itself over 2 networked g5's.

:P

macmacmacmac-macitty-macmacmacmac.... the only virii i deal with now are on other peoples window boxes, and thats on a regular basis...

If someone sends me one of the "virus warning" emails, or any other dodgy sounding tripe (Bill gates will send 3c to everyone you send this email to, just because he can) type thing...
I send them the link to http://www.snopes.com
