Just saw this at work (TANDY) with our telstra wireless broadband packages we sell. WIN A KOMBI got my eye straight away, ESPECIALLY with the SPLITTY
in the pic.
BUT....
The fine print says its a 1975 kombi! And Vintage??? :o, Not yet, i just find it a bit of a nasty game for all those split kombi fans who see this,
get in it, and get themeselves a 1 piece screen bay or wateva, rather than a splitty. On hte bright side, better running gear, gutz, and got the
dvd/mp3 + GPS, not cheap stuff.
Bay will eventually become vintage, I just thought it was a big suck in for unknowledgable fans.
What is vintage? Its 2006, so thats 31 years old.
Its old enough to go in the NRMA motorfest
I'm selling raffle tickets for my kombi. $1300 each or 3 for $2500.
Good odds, I only have 3 tickets to sell.
I grew up to see vintage as 50 +
Little oxford dictionary classes vintage as a car made between 1917 and 1930. Hmm, a vintage volkswagen is gonna be VERY Rare
cheeky so n sos.. id be pissed if i won and a bay turned up when you were thinkin by the promo it was gunna be a split.. rotters.. why didnt thay just use a bay for the comp.. bastard evil corporation..
I think the local vintage car club sees vintage as pre 1930. Then theres veteran which is 30 years or older. But I wouldnt like to bet any more than a
:beer on it.
LMAO just had a scary thought of a Camira, AlfaSud, Datto 120Y all crusing around on historic plates. Of course there may not be any of those left.
LMAO at anyone who thinks telstra are capable of doing anything ethical. My list of complaints would blow AVD bandwidth for a year.
Its probably got the GPS, but no rego and no hope of getting it :P

A man wiser than me once said, vintage is 30 to 50 years, veteran is 50+.
Whether that's right or wrong I don't know, but I have heard of a car show where a 71 HQ was classified as vintage.
You got to remember as you get older "vintage" cars get newer.
That said, it's not so much false advertising as come in sucker.
The definition of vintage i would say would most likely be each to their own I guess.
Vintage infers an 'oldness' and 'classic-ness' to a car, and when it comes to that, its a personal opinion.
Ah well, I am still pissed at the fact they got a Splitty on the pic, and u win a 75' bay. That is crap. ANd lol, no i can't think of anything
ethical they have done, cept we negociated a great Cable Broadband deal cause we are with them on our home phone and mobile and stuff. $50 a month,
free installation, UNLIMITED downloads, high speed, after like 10Gig of download, it caps the speed halfway, which still is insanely better than dial
up.
But anyways, Dam them.
there are better deals than those offered by telstra and optus
try this site mate it lets you compare plans
http://www.whirlpool.net.au/
I think there would be a good case against them for miss-leadind advertising, has it doesnt say from what I can see? that vehicle pitured is not
actual vehicle or even a similar model! Most people would not know that there was even a difference. Maybe you just hope to win and if you do take the
bay then bitch to TV etc ,,never know they may come around from the dark side
I always thought vintage was over 25 years...
found out the other day that our leasing company allows "classic" cars to be leased... enquired what criteria makes a "classic"... pmsl when guy
told me anything over 10 years old in their eyes is a "classic" ... i asked him their definition of a 50 year old car was... he replied too old!!!
hahahaha
Veteran is pre- 1917
Vintage is 1917- 1930
Classic is 1931- over 25 years old
what Helbus says is absolutely correct, & that is that, lots of terms become misused & over time become "fact"
volkswagens will never be vintage.Vintage, Veteran cars are from a defined period relating primarily to methods of production & technology, just as
you have defined periods like Bronze age Middle ages etc.
Telstra is giving away a kombi, better to give away what to the inevitable general public that will win it, a far safer & more usable kombi, than have
Leo Wanker totally destroy or constantly bad mouth the car he just won,
This bay window kombi is a really nice car, it is auto, so anybody can drive it, & in excellent condition mechanically, as it was maintained by Andrew
Dodd
i dont think id be complaining if i won it lol
Yeh.... y'all got a problem wit bays now??? :o... be careful or ya be wearin' cement shoes!
And about the passing rego... if I recall.. this bus was advertised on here shortly before telstra bought it and from what I could tell from the add
was regod at the time and in rather good condition.
I'm all for what Kim said... average Joe will be pleased with a bay... give em a plittty and theyll soon have a fit over the terrible acceleration,
lack of basic interior features such as a glovebox, lack of safety featuires, frequent repair bills... and the list goes on. A bay on the other hand
is a very well-rounded car, still a classic... but one that can be driven by your average soccermum.
Onya Kim!
Besides... not like one has to pay for it, its a prize... and when ya consider the shit they give away as prizes these days, the Ford Ka and Proton
Satria etc... why complain??... finally a company is offering a real car as a prize, that is going to appreciate in value and provide satisfaction to
the winner, instead of the cheapest half-baked piece of garbage they can lay there hands on. Just think...how many cars do we see in the classifieds
that are advertised as unwanted prizes...
Ok...theres my pro-bay rant over... continue
Correct schmo, I was involved a bit in this, & recommended this vehicle, they have put a lot of work into it, & also very carefully considered what
vehicle to get so that they are giving away something good, most people do not differentiat with kombi's, they are aircooled & the engine is in the
back, that is about it.
the promotion has been good for all kombis, lotsa people that know I have a kombi tell me about the promotion, they don't know what a split is, it is
just a blue kombi to them

a group of local businesses around here are giving away a restored 1968 beetlle as a promo...
quite nice, but uhh bright pink
Hmmmm...no prob...one can easily enter the competition, win the beetle, sand off the paint then let oxidisation do it's thing!
Then drop it in the weeds! :bounce
soooo, Boris is misleading the public with his VINTAGE VEE DUB stuff :P
The bay listed as the prize is described in the entry details as:
'a used 1975 Blue Volkswagen Kombi ("Kombi") valued at $20,000, featuring a GPS tracking system and a DVD/MP3 player....the only warranty given by
the Promoter with respect to the Kombi is that it is roadworthy when given to the winner...'

false advertising if you ask me i wanna win a 55
Quote: |
my 54 oval is classed as classic by the transport dept anyways..
I'm a classic!
classic kombi for sale.... hurry http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7246889694
Classic is not a defined period, after Vintage has has had all sorts of fights & terms, like Post Vintage Thoroughbred, etc, dont think anybody will ever sort that out, anything over 20 years old, these days is either classic or vintage or antique, or collectores item, if someone wants to sell it :P
would not go into any damn telstra competition....Volkswagen or whatever! And I have heard that the Golf GTi is now a classic, so terms are buggered
over all the time...lets say all Volksies are classics and then everyone is happy.
H
why can't we all be friends :jesus
