Hi
The mrs and I plan to move over sometime next year and bring her 1960 right hand drive karmann ghia with us, shipping is easy as i'll stick it in a
20ft container and pick it up at the docks. the problem is I dont know what rules there are regarding import tax should there be any if there are any
restrictions on selling the car once we are in aus. also will the car need to have a kms speedo and will it be ok lowerd all round and with a narrowed
beam? will it need an inspection and an engineers report, will the seatbelts need to be aus tagged and will it be ok with a toughened glass screen?
nice ghia try contacting boomerdog on here as he has just done this from the uk, also try contacting the roads and traffic authority in the area you plan to move to, ie the rta in nsw, vicroads in victoria etc
firstly, that is gorgeous!
Secondly, since you've already owned the car for some time, and you're emmigrating, I can't see why there'd be many dramas. The car is over 30
years old and there is some sort of classic status for them as I understand. Secondly, car of that age in Aust. only came out with toughened glass. As
for the lowering and the narrowed beam, they'll need to be within the mod guidelines of the state you live in (which will probably mean an
engineer's reports for the beam), but aside of that you should be fine.
THanks for the replies
forgot to say Sydney is the intended destination, Nicole (the wife) is from Collaroy so our chances of living anywhere but sydney is slim.

I remember followig the build up on vzi, you did all the work yourself. Is that right? A lovely car. I looked into this for my 55 oval, not too many
dramas and roll on roll off was pretty cheap too.
start looking for car spaces now ;-)
If your selling your pad in London you can afford to buy Sydney.
One thing I seem to remember from Boomerdog though was get pics and insurance.
I think his car got damaged after he left it over there and before he got it back here. His thread should tell all, but I can't remember what it was
called.
Just do a search under his name and it should pop up.
As for MPH speedo to KMPH, nah, just get the transfer put over the top and you will have the km markings. (I cheat, I just have yellow duct tape
marking 60, 80 and 100 and guess the rest )
Good luck and look forward to seeing it, looks very nice!!
