Day of the Volkswagen, Yarra Glenn in November???
Just want to check the dates for this, if it is on again this year, does anyone know?
Sunday November 26th.
Cranbourne Racecourse, South Gippsland Highway, Cranbourne.
Details in the next issue of VWMA due out August 5th.
Why cant they do it closer to melbourne?? the 356 concourse is on the same day in Toorak... most of the guys in the 356 seen have vws and most of us
vee dub nuts like 356s so why dont we have it near each other ... makes sence . If it was closer to town and advertised properly more people would
come and it could promote the enthuisam of the vee dub seen here .
my 2c.
empi
Thanks Craig,
Think I will fly down this year, just wanted to book tickets for the right weekend.
I agree Empi, the 1st Day of the VW I went to years ago, was in a park, VW's one end, 356's the other, it was great

cool wanted 2 know my self as i need 2 book a head :thumb
Cranbourne this time? Wow. :P
That's a valid question Adam, and one that comes up every year. Could never understand why the Club and the Register couldn't get it together. Would
benefit so many, and inconvenience so few I'd have thought.
Any VW Club Vic people here can throw some light on it?
The guys at the register have asked my why as well , they are willing to accomodate us in toorak as well.
maybe a poll...

Yeah Flemington's excellent. Como Park with or near the 356's would be ideal. Yeah let's poll it. Go Adam!!

aparrantly so , there are 4 or so parks the have access to.. why not try it once if it dont work dont do it again.
am a club member - but not on the committee that organises the events so cant tell you exactly why cranbourne was chosen.
had heard that the reason for moving from yarra glen is that it is no longer suitable in size and the pricing etc was going up, so they looked for an
alternative...
i dont mind where they have it - i would still attend.
i think thats probably the biggest issue, price, by the time grounds are hired for so many people, insurances or whatever are payed, not to mention, i
cant vouch for tghe new venue as i havent been there, but the abilities of the old venue to have such a huge undercover trades area, as well as the
built in caffeteria and undercover swapmeet sites, are surely things that have been looked at by the club in many other venues, and Cranbourne was
found as the most suitable for what has been a very successful and enjoyable show for many years. if its such a big issue, why dont the 356s come to
cranbourne? I am sure there are less of them so they would be easier to accomodate
I think a central location is part of the appeal, but you're right bbck, the club has certainly done it right in the past and there's no reason to
believe they won't get it right this time.
It seems a bit of a shame though that the two can't compliment each other. Although the majority of the 356 crew might have trouble with that
concept, there are quite a few who are members of both and usually have to decide which event they'll attend.
Even if the two events were on different days...but they're always on the same day and a long way from each other. Not a biggie, but worth a thought.
i have involvement in both vw's & 356's
i have spoken to presidents of both clubs on numerous occasions to no avail
both clubs seem to have different presidents each year
and never have any rapport
you are takjng away at least 100 people for each event
madness!!
Every year. Every damn year.
Flemington sounds good in theory, but it is the Spring Carnival that time of year isn't it? If Melbourne Cup is first week of Nov. and this is the
last week, then I am just thinking that there will still be races on a fair bit.
It could be fund raising by VWCV to refuse to share? Not like they are poor.. just tight. Purely guesswork.
Partition...??? The guys in the 356 seen ask me all the time and are happy to accomodate , lets do it , more central is probally better would enthuse
more people and is more accessible via PT (more enthiuasm).
We will make this happen ... if it dont work well dont do it again but we have to try.

cranbourne is the ass earth of nowhere why so far???????
I am with you on this one Adam (ie move it closer or to a different date) but the 356 Registry asking?? Very strange. I used to be the Secertary of
the Registry before I left Melb and I was heavily involed in the Parade organisation. No way they would have VWs in the same park. Even 911s are
debated every year whether they should have them or not. Who from the Registry has asked? If a member, that doesn't mean the committee view. I knwo
all the committee members and you will STRUGGLE big time to even get close. Not good I know, but its a fact.
Cheers
point cook raaf base thier got chubb at the gate to protect our cars:P:P:P:kiss

2 Years ago when driving back fro the Day of The VW we were flaged down by a group of Porsche 356 drivers heading back to Sydney on the freeway 2
hours from Melbourne, one of the cars had shredded a fan belt and no one had a spare, we stopped and tried a VW belt to no avail, They were great
people and were interested in seeing our VW's, they had stories to tell about their 1st Beelte's etc etc while we waited for another Porsche to
cruise past, that might have a spare belt.
While we were there, at least 2-3 more 356's cruised right past after we tried to wave them down, they gave a wave and noses in the air kept
going!!!. finally one stopped and had a spare belt.
I am sure VW drivers would never do that.
So I am sure some 356 owners would like to share the park with the VW crowd.
Well lets stop talking about it and do it. Raf i was approached by the president and another high up member of the 356 register about this, and i know the porsche people would want to seperate the 356 from the veedubs but that is no reason not to have the shows in the same more central place and then everyone will be happy .... logical.
It doesn't matter where it is it will never please everyone.
The fact that every year for as long as I can remember the two events have been on the same day, and as far away from each other as possible??? Can this mean there's a CONSPIRACY????? Now I think we're on to something.!!!
it true
So far, there's about 8 really nice cars I know of that won't be going due to the new location...what's scarier is where to next? It is always
easier to whinge but I'm sure there's a lot more important factors to consider if I was an organizer for the event.

it wouldve been good to catch both shows wen we visited DOVW last year, we got caught up in a huge convoy of 356s on the way into melbourne and they seemed like nice ppl, asking about our bugs and talking about their first VWs b4 they moved onto 356s. would be great to see some of those rides close up, nothing like having 20 schmick 356s roar past you on the freeway.
I caught the 356 guys out on a run on the saturday before Dovw and got heaps of waves from them. I think its a great idea, and also think the Karman club should be involved too, its all good German heritage.
Its fair to the say The Karmann Club of Vic, always attend the DOVW in numbers, but last year it clatched with an Invite to FED square in the City,
and at that time DOVW was going to be on the Earlier weekend.
They have there National day in FEB 07, then it won't affect either event!!!!!!!! LOL
has anyone actually spoken to the VW club committee members about it?
i would assume that coz its a large event you would have to get these ideas in right at the start of the planning stage.
i'm sure all suggestions would be welcomed.
