Did you park it in a dodgy shopping center?

That sux man, sad to hear.

many years ago when I was on schoolies with my Baja, we parked at the movies and went in. We didn't like anything so walked back out. We notice some dodgy characters near my car, and when they saw us coming over they started walking away. When we got closer we noticed they had broken my side mirrors off and stolen my engine cage chrome clips, so we took off after them. We chased them into a dodgy pool hall and rang the cops. We identified them and the police pulled them out of the place, asked them some dumb questions, said they had nothing on them and let them go. That pissed us off. You know they'll do it again because even when they get caught they get let off.

Bad luck dude.Park it there again when it is all fixed, hide with a camera and see if they come back..then have some fun.Keep it legal of coarse....:duh

VWCOOL - July 14th, 2006 at 09:46 AM

Had the same happen to my Oval when I was at uni. Broken window, all CDs gone and the dash bent. Luckily they didn't get my CD player and its still works

koolkarmakombi - July 14th, 2006 at 10:11 AM

An old mate got sick of ppl ripping stereos out of his old EH. He then made the new rear mount very sharp at the top so when the hand under the dash to rip it out went under, it came out more damaged than the stereo. Worked too, came back to major blood everywhere one day, caught the kid and he had to payt for the cleanup. major mashed hand, tendons etc. Copper tried to have him admit to a 'man trap' but as there was no glued on glass/ razors, no cause.....

66deluxe - July 14th, 2006 at 05:52 PM

I'm sorry to hear about your car man, they'll get their turn. Has got me thinking about a trap or two in my car.

bajachris88 - July 14th, 2006 at 06:08 PM

i'm pretty surprised no one has stolen anything from my baja... will not describe the valuables in there :D... cause people know where it is,hehe, and some know that all i got to enclose the whole thing (doors are off) is a tarp, Haha.

Still, it all really sux we have to cop with these fools. Their everywhere. i gotta reallly push with my mate to make his proposed system less visible. he plans to installl a $2,500 pioneer sound system in his car, and its gonna stick out like dogs balls when u see it throgh the rear hatch window.

With any automotive investment, i rekon security has to be a major factor to look into. Having a baja, when it hits the bitumen, all i worry about at the moment is trying to prevent grubby little fingers from touching and tampering with my vw engine stickin' out... :(

Does anyones insurance company cover the sound systems?

Joel - July 14th, 2006 at 06:51 PM

that sucks
alarms are the best deterent
my stereo is almost worth my bug so i installed a decent alarm system
theyre are shitloads on the market these days with all sorts of sensors availble
breaking a window in my bug alone would set mine off let alone moving around inside enough to steal stuff
as well as the conveneince of remote keyless entry is cool
worst thing u can do tho is have it all on show
my subs are down behind the back seat and my amps are under seats and i'll put my new mp3 stacker in the boot shortly
or get a rotti LOL
Joel

70Beetle - July 14th, 2006 at 08:42 PM

Hey sorry to here about your car toby's mate. I remember you telling me about all the hard work you had put into the car when we had the two cementine beetles parked outside classicveedub. I think that was just after someone had damaged your car while it was parked at TAFE....talk about an unlucky run.

Hope you can get her fixed up again and back to its former glory soon.

squizy - July 14th, 2006 at 08:44 PM

Buy a blue healer cattle dog and leave him in it. I guarentee no arsehole will ever steal anything out of it again! Seriously people have no respect anymore, if you have a great car dont leave it out of your sight.

VWCOOL - July 14th, 2006 at 11:29 PM

Assume your car is not safe anywhere... :cry

bajachris88 - July 14th, 2006 at 11:33 PM

won't the RSPCA go nuts about locking a dog in :(

bond - July 14th, 2006 at 11:50 PM

dude... sounds like something more than just theft... sounds like revenge. there is more obvious agenda in destroying paint work and door cards....

stereos etc are blatent, especially if they are sitting in view in the rear window. so is understandable that at some point sure you may get broken into... as for the rest though.....

just a thought... id be looking closer than you may think

nick

Robo - July 15th, 2006 at 07:22 AM

Ya dont have to lock em in, Ya leave the window open!
Rob...

Matt Ryan - July 15th, 2006 at 07:46 AM

Forget the blue heeler, just leave a rubber dog turd on the seat!!!

Matt.

Robo - July 15th, 2006 at 05:28 PM

Dasdubber - July 15th, 2006 at 06:55 PM

Yep definitely keep it discrete (I used to cover my speakers on the rear shelf with a blanket in my old bug when parking it anywhere) - also most importantly don't crank your stereo anywhere near where you are going to park, and finally (I'm sure you don't), but DO NOT put a big PIONEER or KENWOOD or whatever sticker on the back window. It just advertises "please steal me"!

Hope you can get the damage sorted and get back on track - I had my rear speakers stolen once, second time I bolted the shelf to the car with allen head bolts via steel bracket and used similar bolts (not screws) to fix the speakers in place. Would have taken more time and yielded more attention from passers by if they tried again (luckily didn't).

sinecure - July 16th, 2006 at 07:45 PM

My dad is a retired RAAF Wing Commander, and kept his Air Force cap in the car at all times on the parcel shelf. Helped MASSIVELY with respect, both on the road and parked. Looks very similar to a police cap. Maybe a costume hire shop could help you out?

I also used to leave an american mag, from memory Reptile Magazine, with a small, lidded cane basket on my back seat after a similar incident. Never had a problem after that, seriously.

And Chris, if you declare your audio system to your insurer, they will cover it for theft (at a price, of course!).

mscabrio - July 16th, 2006 at 08:26 PM

I agree about cars not being safe when left alone. Thats why my pride and joy VW is always locked in the garage and I get to drive a crappy daewoo everyday. Good luck to the smart person that tries to pinch that !

last celtic warrior - July 17th, 2006 at 05:02 PM

If you have a sticker printed up by a signwriter that says "Legal Notice - Warning. Tampering with this vehicle may cause grevious personal injury." and stick it inside the front windows near the lock button, it's surprising how many people don't want to find out the hard way what it might mean.

You don't need any actual devices, just the fear factor.
