how do I get rid of these crappy reflectors and put in sealed beams...can it be done? how easy?
got sealed on the splitty and now want them on the bug but..
Rob.
i got the semi sealed h4s in my sbug work a treat
do they just clip in or is there some mod work to do?
they screw in on the mounts fitted in the bucket
You'll need a 'frame' out of something else with H4s from the wreckers; Hilux, Pajero etc etc
not if you buy the h4 upgrade for the mk1 golf version. micks and others have these in stock

I recently fitted a set of sealed beam assemblies from a Morris Mini Minor. They cost me $25 each with sealed beams from a Mini wrecker. You buy the
whole bucket, wires and all. The two top lugs already in the headlight hole in the bug which may need to be bent down, are close to correct. You need
to drill one small hole in the bucket to fit the top two screws and then a small piece of 1 inch aluminium angle pop riveted into the frame will give
you a screw near the bottom. You need to remove the two big adjusting screws from the VW headlight trims as you need to adjust the headlight with the
cover off. I used a self tapping screw top and bottom to fit the trim. A bit of wiring and soldering and hey presto!
Easy as pie. I now have a set of headlights that look good and which show the road well on a dark night in the country.
I think that Morris, Austin, MG headlights across most models from about the 1960s and 70s are all the same.
I believe that you can do the same with Ford and Holden and Valiant headlights from the 60s and 70s.
Thanks guys, will call mick and see how I go...might take pic of the process

I've always had H4s since they came out....
I had sealed beams in a 1302S Super I had in the 70s.
The later 1303S and 76 beetles had the headlamps screwed to the small brackets in the headlamp bowl...
The plastic chrome rim had only the bottom hole...
I usually attach the H4 semi sealed beams to early Ford headlamp buckets then use the two VW long screws to adjust them... I used to use H4 sealed
beams... but they seem prone to stone chips... but the lights still work...
The best bulbs to use are H4 Plus 50 headlamp bulbs...
they are 50% brighter on Low beam and 30% brighter on High beam, but still use the same 60/55w...
so the plastic headlamp plug doesn't melt etc because of the high wattage VERY hot bulbs like 80/100w etc...
Narva and Hella both make them....

I rang mick and he said he had upgrades($98) that are the same a very late bugs.I asked him if they were to crack can any semi-sealed beam go in and he said I'd have to use the beams from a late bug...I havn't see the set-up in the late bugs so will go up check these kits out and work it out, I'm one of those that have to touch things to work them out
here they are in chaos rob
i dont have a photo with out the surounds on unfortunately but they are held in by 3 screws
so barls, If i brake one can I put in any Semi-sealed beam in its place?
i cannot see why not i know bot hella and narva make the adaptors for their h4 lens
heres one i just found by empi
