Type 3 exhaust + heater help needed
pettles - July 16th, 2006 at 08:40 PM

Hi All,
Need a quick education lesson on type 3 exhausts + heaters. My new car is going to the mechanics tomorrow.
Current exhaust is a old style extractor system which is virtually broken off. Is there any way to adapt a heater box (which the car doesn't have) to an extractor system? Any recommendations to exhaust set up? The mechanic is the Albury VW guy who has some NOS original exhausts which I can fit. I would prefer a heater (+ slightly hot exhaust) but heater is priory.
Cheers
Nick

try talking to these guys on extractors

they make systems that allow the use of heater boxes

If your mechanic has some original exhausts I reckon that you should be able to find heater boxes some where which would make the exhaust cheaper.Failing that you could just run the heater off your front pipes only.

Thanks guys. Yes the guy has 3 NOS exhausts and I can get heater boxes. What would be the main reason why I would want to keep extractors fitted? Extra power? What is the norm for type 3 systems?

No real benefit with the extractors as far as power gain on a stock motor.I'd replace the whole system with an original exhaust if you can get it!!Then you will have a heater AND a car that is quiet to drive.Your car looks sweet so an original exhast would stop it looking "cheap".Just my opinion anyway....:party

I'd go with Mick...

Standard exhaust with heater boxes.....

You can get some extractors that fit onto heaterboxes but there is no real advantage....

I love heater boxes....
