Is it just me or does anyone else get a great sense of relief when their 37 year old car passes for rego for anther year.

Luckily we dont have that problem here in W.A
Once a car is registered, thats it! All thats needed is the to pay the fee every sx or twelve months. Just got mine in the male to pay yesterday and
for six months its $179.55 or twelve months $342.20. 
Its the bonus of living in the west... less hassle with old cars! Shame there isn't more on the road though!

Not quite on the same subject but close, what is the transfer fee cost in NSW?

Thats y QLD is great too 
, but... the negatives show easily... the
number of bombs on QLD's streets does piss me off... i don't like fumes and smoke....

If i understand - you mean to get a car registered from another state??
You dont - you deregister it there and register it in NSW
Or if buying a car in NSW it cost 3% to change ownership

Stamp duty is levied by the Office of State Revenue (OSR) when a vehicle is registered in a new name. The RTA collects stamp duty on behalf of the
OSR. You pay stamp duty on the market value of the vehicle or the price you paid, whichever is greater.
Stamp duty is calculated at 3% of the market value up to $45,000 and 5% on the value over $45,000.
For example, the stamp duty for a vehicle with a market value of $50,000 is calculated as:
Stamp Duty on $45,000 at 3% = $1,350
Stamp Duty on $5,000 at 5% = $250
Total Stamp Duty $1,600

Yeah that is stamp duty, is there a transfer fee as such, in Tassie it is $25 i think.

That is why many people have their car registered in another state.
They have the car registered to a relatives address in that state.... Car doesn't have to be passed each year....
I know My car can be passed for registration for the next ten years... as everything is new.....
even new windscreen.... don't like safety glass screens..
You shouldn't wait for something to go wrong with Your car to get it fixed....
I have never had a car NOT passed for rego...
as I look after all the mechicals and replace anything that is worn....[I'm a bit fanatical that way]
Much safer that way.....too..
The NRMA changes hundreds of broken fan belts each year.....
I change My own belt as soon as a crack appears...
A fan belt will have cracks all around it before it breaks
[usually] or even one crack is one too many....
If You have to keep adjusting Your fan belt means its stretching and worn out...... IMHO....

I don't think the rego inspection in NSW is a bad idea as it does take some vehicles off the road that clearly should be. I have seen some shockers
in SA and QLD.
Its the cost of rego in NSW that I find the problem. I register two cars and two trailers and it certainly adds up.
