I won -vs-Brisbane city council
koolkarmakombi - August 1st, 2006 at 03:47 PM

Long story short I have had a 6 x 5 mtr pavillion in the works. The council will now give no other info other than see a certifier. (all privatised) They cost $$$$$$

I hired a BSA approved designer, retained a master builder, spending some $$$ to do it all properly to avoid council issues.

Then....

I need neighbours sigs, done. I need soil stuff, done, I need boundary relaxation- WTF??? The designer said it was fine, the builder says... certifier puts application into council.... 5 weeks and no info, builder rang and was told to piss off they can take 28 + 14 days. I waited a week, rang and couldnt get any info. This is costing to have a skip on site etc.

I finally rang local councillor whom I have had ummm professional dealings with. Told him, extension for room for growing family, wife quite pregnant with next mini vee dubber, work for local hospital, on local committees, enviro designed room, Im nice to puppies, have spent $$$ on real tradies etc.

40 minutes later the head town planner for the area was there with the lacky who was supposed to do it, looked into yard, grovelled to pregnant wife, signed form and left.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY

so building starts this week

:beer:beer:beer:beer:beer:beer:beer

bloody councils.... ( stronger expletives not used due to family audience but anyone else who has had to deal with BCC will know what I mean...)

Good story, but you haven't really won until the thing is built and you have an occupancy certificate (or whatever you cane toads call it)!

I know exactly where your at, been trying to get my house through council for over a year now. Crazy. They seem to just drag there feet and ask for more tests and engineering to be done meenwhile it costs way to much and my bank balance is going way down. Lucky you for getting it approved. Hopefully wont wait much longer.

Hey turbo54 what software did you use to creat that!

I just bought Archicad 10 and doing training next week I hope to be able to give my clients full 3D walk thru's before I even get to site.

Just Photoshop. Took Ages. I am a graphic designer not a cad guy but my brother is the designer and a cad freak. Also works in viz. but I wanted to do it to show my wife what it would turn out like.

Hey
if you think BCC is bad, try the Ippie Council!! the one or two I have had to deal with make the Brisbane lot seem like charity workers!

koolkarmakombi - August 2nd, 2006 at 08:14 AM

Oh they were bad all right, refused to even speak to me. That so changed when I got onto the councillor.

One advantage for working for the government is knowing the language and method to crap in someones nest if they are not doing their thing right.
