valla fuel consumption, how did you go?
amazeer - August 8th, 2006 at 03:14 PM

48 mpg out of my 1500 :D but then I did cheat by it being a triple diamond 1500.

Somewhat amazingly, I got to nambucca and put in 32.19 litres, then got back here.... and put in exactly 32 litres. But the first tank included a trip to raleigh and a few valla-nambucca-valla loops. So I actually used more fuel slipstreaming fish at a steady 100kmh than I did at 5-10kms over the speed limit on the way up.

:duh

ian.mezz - August 8th, 2006 at 03:23 PM

I used about $30 to $40 each way. I used about a litre of oil (At the most, even with the oil leak!)

waltermitty - August 8th, 2006 at 03:42 PM

lots more but still happy for 1000 klms / 128 lt in an auto T3 so 12.8 lt/100 not bad as the manual suggests 15.8 lt at 120 klms and I sat on 110 -120 all the way, man those roads ar improoving at last. Mitchell

Baja Wes - August 8th, 2006 at 03:49 PM

I got about 60mpg (~4.7L/100km) last time I went to Valla. That was when I rode my motorbike :D

The V6 gets about 31mpg (a bit over 9L/100km) on the highway at the moment, even with the hideous Baja aerodynamics. It's obvious the aerodynamics suck because it gets about 28mpg (10L/100km) around town. 1 oxygen sensor is dead so it may get better if I fix that...

It gets about the same economy as the 1915 VW engine did.

Bizarre - August 8th, 2006 at 05:36 PM

I got about 7.5 L/100 kms out of my 75L with 1916

Was bloody happy with that.

I was under the speed limit all the way

Volkswagenboy - August 8th, 2006 at 06:07 PM

That's obviously a typo!!!
It's spelt O V E R!!
:P

Tazz - August 8th, 2006 at 06:10 PM

I would have used less.... But Drifting around the roundabouts with Miss VDub would have cost me a little...

Not worried in the least..... I was happy to be there...

blutopless2 - August 8th, 2006 at 06:48 PM

i averaged around 10L/100 k's in my 1776 oval. was happy with it though.. :tu:

hellbugged - August 8th, 2006 at 06:58 PM

i only got bloody 6 M.P.G out of the EJ powered notch!:smirk:

crewcabconnection - August 8th, 2006 at 07:03 PM

Penriff to Valla (return) ... $175.00, 1600TP doing 95/110. Very happy with that, but then Im used to watching the T3 fuel guage doing its diving act. Two stop on my 35 litre tank. Thats gotta be good value.

Lams - August 8th, 2006 at 07:10 PM

Heavy fatass T4 doublecab drank more than I did :grind:

I had a bad stomach bug over the whole weekend though, which kinda ruined Valla for me :cussing

warb - August 8th, 2006 at 07:20 PM

approx 10l/100k's .. but i was not holding it back, great fun..

VWCOOL - August 8th, 2006 at 07:24 PM

11.25L/100km from factory 1600 cruising/flogging at true 120km/h most of the way

h - August 8th, 2006 at 07:26 PM

i used about 75l for the 1000k trip from brisvegas and back, i fuelled up at byron on friday and did over 800kms on 60l, stoked with the T4 diesel full of stuff that didnt quite sell at the swap oh well next time..

karmen - August 8th, 2006 at 07:30 PM

anyone here tried a hyclone fuel saver on a vw??

am real interested as they're supposed to increase power also.....

my Seat Cordoba does 6.5 L and less if i go under the speed limit.

that and smooth driving with favourable elements gives the best consumption on well-tuned cars. incl good brake adjustment !!!(not too tight)

mscabrio - August 8th, 2006 at 07:31 PM

I have no idea!!!!! Just fillled up when I got down to 1/4 full. I am so useless when it comes to information like that! Rod tells me that my 2.0L NB averaged 7L / 100km and that was doing a tad over the limit (slowed down to smile at Mr Plod!)

pete wood - August 8th, 2006 at 08:04 PM

half a tank and one ECU for 250km. :sniffle:

I was looking forward to seeing just how good it was on fuel.

11CAB - August 8th, 2006 at 08:04 PM

I sat on 110km-115km/h all the way home in the Baja Bus with a 2L motor and 1600 gearbox with 31x10.5's and used probably too much fuel, but it was a blast passing just about everything.........:P

bajachris88 - August 8th, 2006 at 08:33 PM

BEAT THIS!! 0 ltrs per 100kms :P, didn't spend a cent, nor chew up a cent.

Volkswagenboy - August 8th, 2006 at 08:34 PM

Think of the train ticket boy.
-Staggers.

bajachris88 - August 8th, 2006 at 08:48 PM

$40 one way, economy class! think a dub probably would have been the same $ value from bris? What $ u had to spend for travel brenton? be good to go down next valla in a dub

baybuscamperkid - August 8th, 2006 at 09:12 PM

amazing how economical these old girls can be hey! every time i go for an extended drive (anything over 1-1.5hrs) my little wagon drops to 7 - 8l/100km not bad for a 34 year old 1600 duel carb 4spd station wagon at full song at around 100kph!

It will probably do the same as what it does on other cars - nothing.

Have a look at the "fuel savers" post further down the general chit chat.

bajachris88 - August 8th, 2006 at 10:05 PM

apparently magnets are suppose to help too

pod - August 8th, 2006 at 10:16 PM

about $200 there and back from campbelltown in my 2ltr t3 bus, thought it wasnt too bad:?: was all up about 1150 km`s

[ Edited on 8-8-06 by pod ]

HerbieBoy82 - August 8th, 2006 at 11:28 PM

Ok that didn't seem to work the first time so here goes: I got about 9L/100km on way down but was closer to 10-10.5L/100km on way back cos wasn't trying to drive economically. I'm happy with that for a fully laden '68 1500 s/port. I'm not going to bother with any other fuel other than optimax or ultimate because it runs too sweet on it.

Brendan.

hypo-vw - August 8th, 2006 at 11:33 PM

put the twin-cab on the dyno on tuesday and set-up the 44mm IDF webers on the 2.5litre type-4 tow engine before heading off from Wollongong . Towed 'MANGO' on the open-trailer this year and the ute was packed with tents , sleeping equipment , tools , fishing gear , esky , clothes , 6m x 4m marque and lots of other crap .
got 16mpg which was great compared to last trip to valla with the enclosed trailer at 10.5mpg .
This year it cost me $320 in fuel alone... but worth it for the valla experience !!

karmen - August 8th, 2006 at 11:37 PM

WITH TODAY'S Fuel PRICES I DON'T HESITATE with the k's i gotta do to tryfor 30 day moneyback warranty
have kept an eye on this for a while and if it pays for itself in a year its still ok
around $160 (2 weeks fuel for me)
