Hey Guys and Gals, Not sure which section this should be in, so Mods If it needs to be moved, no worries....
Just wanting to know who/where/how much heater Channels would cost/do (replace). Was given a run around Beetle, but heaters and a few other areas are
totally stuffed, But I wouldnt even want to think about doing the heaters myself...
Thanks Nectar
This is a big job that I rekon would cost big dollars. Not because you would have to be amazingly skilled, but because of the time it takes.
I've done the drivers side heater channel on my bug and I'm not a skilled person in this field so its definately possible. I'm just a simple
computer technician, so if I can do it anyone can. I did bits and pieces over a month on weekends, but if you were focused you could follow this
schedule:
Weekend 1: Remove seats, steering wheel, body bolts, doors, fenders.
Weekend 2: Drill out spot welds and remove old heater channel. Install new heater channel
Weekend 3: Hire mig welder and spot weld heater channel in.
Weekend 4: Put the everything back together.
Of coarse this only accounts for one heater channel.
If you break it up into bits and get the "bugmevideo.com" heater channel replacement video, then its definately do-able for anyone with
determination.
wow. i never knew of the bugme videos.
i think one of the heater channel replacement and harness videos will be ordered my way fairly soon.
could save me hundreds

You have a U2U
I am in the process of making my own heater channels. They are exactly the same profile as factory beetle ones. I'm making them out of 1.2 zincseal
too.....Not 1mm (or thinner!) mild steel.
I have some pics if you are interested.
Yep a big job 4 sure time consuming is the killer if you have to pay some one
If you can do your self then it will be cheaper
The door sills are available new but may need some mods depending on the year model your fitting them to, the sills available are made for later
model cars but will fit pre 67 cars with some slight changes depending on how authentic you need the car
The other problem is that once you start on the heater channels there usually is a load of other bits that are just as bad and it escalates. like
floors, rear cross member.
Not too say that its not all possible just get some spare steel to make up the extra repair sections.
you might fair better over here! as the five channels I have done were all UK cars and basically needed the bottom 12 inches all round.
A 1200 is slow - can you post some pics on here. They can't be easy to make those :-)
Here are some progress shots. I have only made the top part so far. I hope this works.....I think the pics might be too big though....
No.......it didn't work....
I can e mail them to someone, if they would like to put them up?
email them to me
