quarter mile times
blownKombi - April 22nd, 2003 at 07:14 PM

I'm looking at taking my kombi to the drags tommorrow night and i'm wondering what times kombis do? I'm supercharged 4agze in the back, if you dont already know, but are there any hot kombis so i can sort of guess what time mine will do. I think i get around 125kw at the flywheel, from the books, but its an auto and i don't think its running to top performance

Baja Wes - April 22nd, 2003 at 07:44 PM

if you have excel 2000 you can download this and it will let you know what your after, if you find a power curve for a 4agze and the weight of a kombi.

the auto might complicate things, just use a crap stall efficiency.

sand kombi - April 23rd, 2003 at 08:22 PM

The fastest street driven one I've heard of is about 15.5 secs at the vwday at surfers paradise race way about 5 yrs ago , it was a lifted twin cab owned by john alders brother in law "STRAP". powered by a 2.2/2.4 ltr with de lortos on it

sand kombi - April 23rd, 2003 at 08:24 PM

could've been 17.5 secs, still its pretty good for a brick

OvalGlen - April 23rd, 2003 at 09:15 PM

well they are probably hard at it right now,
Knowing the crazies we get on this forum , someone will probably post us later tonight.:D

vw54 - April 23rd, 2003 at 09:22 PM

hope so might have scared him off when i said it would go like a brick

OvalGlen - April 23rd, 2003 at 09:30 PM

yeah even though my Oval goes hard, I'm sure it would appear dissapointing at drags, say high 15's if I'm lucky.
I always remember the great HO Fords used to do 15.4 sec ( I think ) 351 ci V8
Some people get rude shock when they run their cars.Good he was pre warned.

Quickbug - April 24th, 2003 at 09:37 AM

hehehe last time i went to the drags i ran a 15.4 and that was shutting it down halfway thru third about 3/4 way along the 1/4 mile. Bitch wasnt running right...

There were a few shocked people....
Namely a VN commodore all modded up that i left eating my dust thru all three gears, same for a turbo rotary with a huge front mount...

Baja Wes - April 24th, 2003 at 02:10 PM

The best time I saw the yellow and white dual cab kombi do at surfers was a 16.8 or 16.9

not mega fast, but enough to give most cars on the road a decent run. about the same 1/4 time as an EF era 6 cyl falcon which isnt too bad.

VOLK - April 24th, 2003 at 04:44 PM

I managed consistent 16.4s with no traction through first at all, but I've beat faster cars on the street?!?! I reckon it shoud be capable of cutting in to the 15s with ease...

blownKombi - April 24th, 2003 at 05:56 PM

Sorry to disappoint, and no im not scared off. I ended up having to work late and never got to go to the run. :repuke
I should be going next time though

vw54 - April 24th, 2003 at 07:00 PM

Theres always next time

amazer - April 24th, 2003 at 07:02 PM

my best 1/4 was 14.65
best 1/8 9.05

turbo 2 litre

amazer - April 24th, 2003 at 07:04 PM

but that was uphill eastern creek.

11CAB - April 24th, 2003 at 07:12 PM

Amazer,
I saw your Kombi race at the 94 Jamboree @ Willowbank, I think it was in the 14's. The funniest thing was that all the guys sitting around me were Rotary nuts, and they were in complete shock when this old kombi flogged the crap out of the rotary that it was racing.......

amazer - April 24th, 2003 at 07:29 PM

That was 15.1 something with the old injection I couldnt get right.

vanderaj - April 24th, 2003 at 07:51 PM

According to Wes's sheet, I could do 16.4 assuming I'm a complete legend at shifting. We'll see when the Melbourne drags come around! My new DV is fitted Monday, so I'm all set. Maybe I should lose some weight.

Wes, you have a U2U for the revised sheet with all the New Beetle's details plugged in.

Andrew

OvalGlen - April 25th, 2003 at 01:25 AM

Chris, that is unreal, excellent. but
Me thinks , how can 69 HP equal 14.6 sec in a Kombi.?
Is it completely Gutted..???
Must be the Driver.....................

amazer - April 25th, 2003 at 12:31 PM

A strong tailwind.
Dave birchall bent over in the back providing jet propulsion.

Was in my old kombi. A different kombi to my present 69hp junker.

vw54 - April 25th, 2003 at 04:52 PM

blownKombi - April 25th, 2003 at 06:36 PM

well as long as you have a flammable gas sticker on the back...
