Let's say hypothetically, a friend is going to get whitewalls for her bug. Where can I point her to get them installed properly? Preferably in the
eastern 'burbs of Melberg, but she'll travel to get it done correctly.
I've heard of people installing the 'walls themselves, but as far as I know, isn't the tyre bead really difficult to break from the rim? ..and you
will also need that sealant stuff too?
Cheers
Chris
Beaurepaires in Ringwood did mine. The boss there used to have a bug himself so seems to know what he's doing. Haven't had a problem with mine in the couple of months they've been installed.
is he still working there? I've dealt with other B'repairs before and they don't really know much about old cars and associated elements... You've currently got protawalls one your bug right now don't ya?
Yeah, hes still there - i drive past most days and usually see him in the workshop. And yep, i've got Omega portawalls on.
I think i was just lucky to find a beaurepaires that had VW knowledge - i got a leak, and needed a tyre (ended up buying 4 as the resst were shagged
anyway) and got the portawalls a few weeks later and he installed them for next to nothing.
does this man of merit have a name?
Not that i can remember! Might have been Andrew...but don't quote me.
"Andrew.." ok. *writes it down...*
oh wait... ok..
right.
anyone else have any suggestions?
Buy a tire fitting machine like I did!
-Staggers.
I've been doing it for ten years, really easy. Give me a call and I'll tell you how it's done at your local servo. Which one's are you using, Atlas
or Peter's Tyre Trim etc...rubber or plastic based type whitewalls? Finally, are you running radials or cross ply and if it's a daily driver on
radial's,be prepared to change your tyres every six months coz it eats the sidewall..:thumb

If your gunna use radials why dont you just buy some proper Coker whitewall radials? I run Nankang crossplys with Omega whitewall inserts. I put them
on myself. Just let the tyre down broke the bead put em in and reinflated the tyre again, easy!
