should i bring the bus ???
pommie - September 7th, 2006 at 04:51 PM

hello there all i am currently in NZ and have a dilemma here it is
i have a 1982 brazilian bus that i have owned for allmost 2 years and since owning it i have had the motor rebuilt and given it a ratty paintwork look and thats about it.
the last time i took it for a warrant the bloke at the garage was reluctant to give me the ticket as he said its got rust issues ( now i i am from the uk where we really do have rust issues and this bus isnt like that, ok a few surface bits and bobs here but other than that its fine, i just thought he was being picky and put it down to a bad choice of garage. ) after 6 months of trouble free travels i got some new brake shoes on the front and took her for a warrant this time with the AA and guess what she passed no worries all the bloke said was the tyres needed a little more air ? ( imagine how pleased i was )

so here is the cruncher me and the wife to be( in december) are moving to OZ from New Zealand in jan( still not sure where Perth hopfully but could be anywhere ) and we dont know if we should take it with us or sell it before we leave has anyone got any ideas of prices for shipping to sydney/melbourne from the south island of NZ for a bus and what goes on when shipping a bus to OZ with all the paperwork and stuff any ideas would help as we not sure

the bus isnt pretty but we love it

Cool bus. So long as you can prove you have owned it for the 2 years you'll be fine with the import. Getting it registered here should only be a problem if the rust is structural. If its not in the sills then small amounts of rust should be OK. Just bog them up regardless if you can. I'd love to see one of those hybrid things in the flesh.

I would, if it was mine. I don't know about the rules etc, it may depend on where you decide to off load her, Melbourne, Sydney etc. as different states may have different rules.

Moving from Oamaru to Perth ? The heat will more likely kill you ;)
Move to Melbourne instead, still a darn site warmer than Oamaru (I lived in Otago, Dunedin and Central, so know what its like :) )
and the plus side to that is that you can join in our Melbourne Dub cruises with your excellent looking bus!

good looking bus i personaly would like to see you bring it over but i think the question is cost of bringing it over and rego knowing that you can pick up a rust free bay over here for a reasonable price

Speak to the local rego authorities first. They will put you on to someone who can help. Otherwise it could be a very expenive lawn ornament. :td:

BTW, love the bus.:tu:
