I'm hoping, got everything crossed. Waiting for the tax cheque.

59 BUS - April 29th, 2003 at 01:01 PM

Dont forget you will need a CAMS licence!
2N is about $60
2NS is $97
S = Speed:o

vw54 - April 29th, 2003 at 07:42 PM

Would love to have a drive on the day Ben ???

speedster356 - April 29th, 2003 at 07:47 PM

If all goes to plan I will have the turbo Subi/Spyder and the 1916 Speedster.
Just need to arrange a tow car for the Spyder. Can't wait......

shiftyvw - April 29th, 2003 at 08:01 PM

Never been to valla, Is this a suitable sort of track to have a spin on if youve never raced anything before?

Craig Torrens - April 29th, 2003 at 08:12 PM

good for first timers, it is a slow speed track.

amazer - April 29th, 2003 at 08:12 PM

Err it depends where you have it. Its mostly a slow track with tight corners. Most cars will understeer off rather than spin off in most places. I dont recall seeing any panel damage there although there is a dirt bank waiting for you if you lose a tank slapper off turn 1. Or like some clown with a white fastback who keeps on full power on wet grass after a lose you could be lucky not to hit the marshall area which is protected with tyres.

I think its a safe place for slower street cars but wouldnt go as far as guaranteeing that.

amazer - April 29th, 2003 at 08:16 PM

Trying not to upset some people, I think Ben Duries car is the best handling car i've seen there. Turns in and stays nice n flat. Better than pobjoys special, and better than my old mate jeff unwin. My thing is now oversteering like a demon on real tracks at real speeds so hopefully at valla I'll be neutral.

Grey 57 - April 29th, 2003 at 08:17 PM

Luv to have a bash in the Oval. But if I break it, it would be a long walk back to Melb. :thumb

Craig Torrens - April 29th, 2003 at 08:25 PM

I agree about the timing gear, surely a light beam wouldn't be too hard to set up.

vw54 - April 29th, 2003 at 08:29 PM

Got to talk Boris int oit... the car is ready to run.

Its only done the East coast rally so far... and went nice.

BiX - April 29th, 2003 at 08:40 PM

My car was trying to tell me something when i broke a accel cable 5mins out of valla on the way to sydney for easter, so i will b there and racing, I know 2 or 3 other ppl at least from the club(vwdcq) want to run.

Peter Leonard - April 29th, 2003 at 08:52 PM

love to have a punt around the track and display my shonky driving:D
what kinda crap i gotta wade thru before i can do it?
anyone been thru all the rigmarole recently and knows what the setup bottom line is?
i need to join a cams affiliated club, like...
i need a class 'wot' license, worth 'wot'
and i need to sign up to race on the day... or before the day... where... how much.. etc
does it matter that i'll be running a highly futuristic 'all the wheels pointing diff directions' handling setup? or am i likely to be knocked back?
(it's sound, just handles like a bucket full of monkey brains)
ta, and much appreciation for anyone who's interested in seeing me make a fool outta myself

Peter Leonard - April 29th, 2003 at 08:54 PM

that bit about the monkey brains was a tad optimistic.. :D

Yeah, and better than an old Kombi with both driver's side wheels 2 foot in the air, ay!

Grey 57 - April 29th, 2003 at 08:57 PM

Yeah you are probably right Ben. As Peter has asked other than the cams license what else do I need. Any thing required on the car.
I dont have lap sash belts only laps. That gonna be a prob?

We need more competiters or its not worth running, it gets boring with just the few Hillclimb cars that run, in fact i think it should be pr-entries so we no the numbers and if its even worth going .
Get a cams licence ,join a club etc.
Surely we can get a few extra entries etc.
Dave I am willing to enter 3 cars, I'm sure the Pobjoys will run a few , how many will Vintage send to race ?
What about the rest , Richard etc ?
Lets see how many reply to this thread and then ask Donna for Pre-entries so may-be they can afford proper timing gear, please no stop watches.
Have not run our cars since King Edward Park so I'm keen to have a run.
regards
Ben

Yeah, I'd like to have another run in my Oval, assuming I can get my new big donk in time
FARK only three months

Grey 57 - April 29th, 2003 at 09:04 PM

Just saw the bit about timing gear. With a mighty 39hp from my 1600DP on tap , I think you could time me with a sun dail.

Oopps thats single port.

geez hope it isn't raining...
*brings his egg timer just in case*

shiftyvw - April 29th, 2003 at 09:34 PM

Count Me IN!
Anyone got details of the cams licence process etc???

amazer - April 29th, 2003 at 09:35 PM

join CAMS affiliated car club
level 2 licence (just fill out form) $91
scrutineering should ask for fire extinguisher and secondary bonnet tie down. hood pins, belt anything
other than that, any roadworthy vehicle

oops and a helmet.

BiX - April 29th, 2003 at 09:38 PM

Having never raced at valla, this is what i assume from racing in hillclimbs lapsrints etc.
-U do need CAMS affilated club memebvership, VWDCQ, Holden sporting car club and the mgcar club in Qld etc. about $30 to $100 dollars.
-U can get a "day" lisence(or should be able to), and u use to be able to take the cost of the day lisence from a full lisence if u applied within a month. normally day lisence about $20ish dollars last time i checked.
-full 2s (2 speed) lisence $91 from cams, but get in a month or 2 early it can take a while.
-on the assumption the event is classed as a "speed event" u will need aust std approved helment(any motocycle helmet will meet the standards), ankle to wrist to neck non flamable clothing(overalls good), fire extinguisher in car. and the car must be road worthy. Eg not much play in steering, good brake pedal etc.

its all pretty basic. and once u have ur lisence, u go to more and more events:D

shiftyvw - April 29th, 2003 at 09:38 PM

I live in wollongong as well, any club you'd recomend?

BiX - April 29th, 2003 at 09:39 PM

amazer - April 29th, 2003 at 09:43 PM
