My almost perfect bus is no longer almost perfect anymore after a bushrat appeared all of a sudden three feet in front of me at about midnight last night.

Th panel damage is worse than the photos give it credit for... gonna be a mongrel of a job fto fix that one. The upshot is at least the undercarriage survived.

Needless to say tho the roo didnt come off too good either... i went back after checking the bus and it had a broken leg, and was dead by this morning. :(

It was a small and relatively young one and was only hit at around 40k's on a country road... had it been an adult at 80 or 90k's on a highway then the results could be disastous. :duh

So watch out for em guys... :jesus:

Bugger!

A difficult position to get straight again with all those factory creases in that area.

On the positive side though - if you had been driving a more modern Jap/Korean/etc car it would have been far worse - you may have even been up for the cost of new air bags too!

Keep us up to date with the repairs

Good Luck

R :)

ang3lsholocaust - October 5th, 2006 at 03:23 PM

poor buttercup :cry

Schmoburger - October 5th, 2006 at 03:46 PM

CHeers guys...yeh... If I were driving a modern jap car chances are I'd be posting this with a large rat down my throat :duh

The big problem is the fact that yep, its in the worst possible place due to the creases that ARE supposed to be there, and allso being where it is, it will be very dificult to get lverage where its needed to push it out, or enough of a swing on a mallet to beat it out. :(

CAFFINEPUSHERMAN - October 5th, 2006 at 04:52 PM

condolences at least you wernt hurt you can repair anything

Joel - October 5th, 2006 at 05:53 PM

anyone ever hit a full grown wombat?
i barrelled one on my way to work one morning and it was like hitting a brick wall
F**K those things are solid, all muscle
he was about this size
luckily the navara has a skid plate and i bounced up over him LOL

tried pushing it out with your hands yet? since its frech you might get most of it out still if you are lucky.

Schmoburger - October 5th, 2006 at 08:00 PM

yeh Ryan... tried with hands... and feet... it aint happenin :(

baybuscamperkid - October 5th, 2006 at 08:20 PM

damn shame, it is surprising what you can get out if your lucky. time for a bullbar? :D

Schmoburger - October 5th, 2006 at 08:37 PM

mmmmmm....indeed I think it might be that time.

Ive been meaning to go up to WPVW and get the bullbar Wayne had for me but just havent gotten round to it thus far. :(

I guess this is my pennance for being lazy and procrastinating. :cry

If you want it fixed properly, take it to Steve Mitchell panel beating, in browns road for a quote, he is very good, and very reasonable with his prices.

pod - October 5th, 2006 at 08:41 PM

Thanks Dave, I might take her her out there next week and get him to have a looksee... he did my mates Prelude and did an amazing job of it... Jaryd was saying there was a black and yellow Kombi in there at the time his prelude was getting decancered actually.

Thing is, until ya told me his name, neither of us could remember who the guy was

Cheers!

vwjon - October 28th, 2006 at 05:55 PM

oh the chook is totally gross!!!!! but on a better note, schmoo, if you get a mate to hold a good sized sand bag on the out side of the dent, you will be able to knock most of it out with a good sized rubber mallet. just a tip. cheers jon

Schmoburger - October 29th, 2006 at 12:00 PM

Cheers Lord Jon! :D

Yeh dad hammered it out quite a bit without my consent .... so it looks far better now, but still needs finishing off, which I will probably leave in Steve's capable hands.

I was quoted $480 originally to have it repaired properly and have the color matched and the dmaged area repainted, which seems fairly reasonable. But alas dad got too it before 480 bucks got to me hehehehe
