so the onboard Ethernet port dies ... I get a new card for $20.00 - figure I'll spend up and get a good one. I install it - wow, nothing...
so I restart, and turn off the onboard in the Bios.
Restart ... nothing.
Restart ... finds it ... can't find a driver.
Insert CD, locate driver ... driver invalid, some 20 foot error code.
...Windows has to close...it's had a fatal error...
Remove and refit board....
Restart
Finds it - this time actually gets the right brand name
Wants to install drivers ... finds them on its own on the CD this time.
Great!.
Restart
Plug in Ethernet cable
Light comes on
No new card in network settings ... but finds it in the System devices ... yellow symbol ... you device is installed but is not working....Error Code
- 20 foot number
Do you want to trouble shoot?
Hell yeah!
Chug Chug, gurgle, gurgle for a couple of mins....
Nope, can't find anything to help you ... we recommend you go online and visit Micro$oft online for more help.

1. Go into device manager and uninstall original ethernet (if it still shows) and reboot.
2. Check documentation for new card. May need software installed BEFORE installing hardware.
Wouldn't it be cool if Volkswagen computers exsisted. The older, the better, no reason to upgrade. People would sell off their newer ones when they get the chance to score an older model. Sure it will drip a bit of oil on your desk, but at least the bloody thing would keep going when the going got tough...
