well lets start of my newb questions buy asking what year did the shape of he beetle change
or am i jsut imagining that a 69 looks slightly different to a 64

in 68 they introduced the "fat chick"
upright headligts
4 stud wheels, quite a few changes

the "late" beetles 68 and on look wider, particularly in the rear, when you look at the decklid, i dont know if theyre actually wider though..
and the guards dont look as smooth, due to the upright headies

pre 68 beetles had laid back headlights, blade type bumpers with towel rails and overriders and came with 1100, 1200, 1300cc engines
68 on had the upright headlights, square bumpers and have 1500 and 1600cc engines
also 67 US and european spec beetles had the upright headlights
