German barn find!
andim1 - December 25th, 2006 at 08:41 PM

Hi guys, I'm in germany on holiday at my wifes family farm and have made a lovely discovery in a barn at the back of the farm. To cut a long story short i have bought two vw's, a 1970 rock solid karmann gia and next to it is a 64 beetle that has been parked up for 30 years. it has all the extras you could ask for including factory metal sunroof, head rests, color coded front parcel shelf, reverse and rear fog lights. the car is a one owner and still has it's origional pain( grey ) and origional interior. It still has a full set of cross ply's and was only driven for ten years before being parked up. It has two small rust issues and ofcoarse is left hand drive. Is it worth shipping it back to Australia? if so how much do you think it's worth for sale when landed?

Probabaly worth more LHD drive. Leave it original.
You can register it that way.

Is the KG LHD as well??

If your intention is to bring them back to sell for profit you woul be more sucessful to sell them there.. Far cheaper than bringing them here and converting them.
If you want them to keep then what they are worth here does not matter.

Yea it's me ad. Merry xmass. I only want to sell the beetle to recover some of the transport costs. looks like i have bought a 68 karmann beetle to! I also found a NOS low light karmann gia rear quarter panel the farmer was gunna chuck out!!! never been on a car! any idea what that's worth? or any one need one? My head nearly fell off when i found all this stuff...

I have seen the panels go for between $750 and $1,200 although you would have to wait for someone that is in the market to get those figures. It will probably cost 3-5k to bring back a car and not much more if you bring back 2. You could also fit 3 in a container with parts and it will still only be maybe 6k.

you will prob find that the beetle would sell for more in germany than it would over here.
from what i saw a few years ago, beetles weren't a cheap(ish) car that people just drove, as a lot still are over here. to build a beetle cost $$$ and they spent HEAPS on rust work... they had to. if the car is good rust wise (ie doesn't need both sills, f and r 1/4's, clips etc etc) it shouldn't be too hard to sell.
