kombikim - January 2nd, 2007 at 10:10 PM

no, very different, & they are Stromberg CD s, which are not as good as SU's as they get older because they are more complicated & have a rubber bits that fail, & do not have such a good Jet Selection
The Monaro Motors SU conversion was featured in a late 50's Modern Motor,

koolkarmakombi - January 3rd, 2007 at 06:44 AM

SU kit, has a pair pointing back towards the rear of the car with flat airclearers on them.

Vintage speed stuff. Guy Harding had a 50 sumething beetle with an original set for sale a while ago

baybuscamperkid - January 3rd, 2007 at 07:59 AM

took a quick look through my late 50's Modern Motors, couldnt seem to find it, could only find an artical on the Okrasa kit, anyone know what year of the mag had it, i may have misplaced that copy.

kombikim - January 3rd, 2007 at 08:06 AM

I have it in my mess somewhere, will have a look tonight

BUGBOY - January 3rd, 2007 at 08:40 AM

Yeah thats not the one, but thanks for the effort.
the one I'm after info on is the 36hp one from monaro motors.

Doug Sweetman - January 3rd, 2007 at 09:44 AM

Wheres Birchall when you need him ? I'm sure he has posted something about this not too long ago...

whatnow - January 3rd, 2007 at 11:59 AM

nice sprint kit and shorrock (or is it a MAG?) bus914. i wish i has those floating around in my shed.

kombikim - January 3rd, 2007 at 10:50 PM

urk, now sick of looking through Modern Motors, the article I was thinking of was July 57 & it was twin Solexes, there were a number of different people in Australia offering a twin SU conversion for the 36hp, one was the Automotive Carburettor Company in Melbourne, but damned if I can find the Monaro Motors advert, although I have seen it & I had another article somewhere with a 36hp running twwin SU's & a 4 tip Lukey muffler

whatnow - January 4th, 2007 at 08:16 PM

kombi kim, i'd love a copy of the twin solex article if possible.

thanks
henry.

Volkswagenboy - January 4th, 2007 at 08:20 PM

Theres some pics of our 36hp Monaro Motors kit in the following directory:

http://www.ozaudi.com/ebay/misc/greyt/

I bought it for $25 at a holden swap meet, but it cost a heap to restore & make run right.

The car is now in Andrew Dodd's hands so you should see it around Sydney!

Nice set up Guy. I have a Monaro Motors kit. Very old and crusty, needs a bit of TLC. The SU's corrrode badly. The manifold and linkages are all good. Air filters ok.
Longterm plan to put it on a future oval project.

Tripped over it at the Baccus Marsh swap a couple of years ago.

Sorry BB not for sale mate.

Guy_H - January 10th, 2007 at 08:43 AM

Yep, take your time - ours was all originally chrome plated & had to be redone - I don't know if that was an option or not - the manifold is from memory cast brass on the ends (and the linkage arms etc...)

Dragging this post up from the depths does anyone have one of these kits or anymore info on these kits. I wouldn't expect many kits would of been sold depending on how long they were available from.
