Q ? for the Type 3 Gurus out there.

Hi Guys
Have a friend who has a type 3 wagon for sale
rang me today & wants to sell it.
As I am no expert on price quotes especially on type 3's & I haven't seen many listings in the FOR SALE posts lately here for them, I would like to give him some idea on what they are fetching for lately.
Details are:
its a 71 olive green type 3 wagon
been with the family for roughly 17yrs...
not rego' since 2002 but he says it would pass as he has been doing a bit of maintenance on it lately.
Body he says is ok with a small dent near front indicator &
front guard shows now a little bit rust
No rust in floor

So my question is what price range (without seeing it) would be a good starting point for him to ask.
But wants it to go to a VW enthusist who will look after it.
Can you give me some idea now what is a good price $ for something like this now
Hope someone can help....
Judy

I guess the question would be how much rust and is it only on a guard?

:o judy, i post this knowing I am going to cop a beating...but....ummm this is a forum with an extensive buy/sell section and inscestuous connections etc. Asking advice on something like that with a generalised ballpark description will give you a generalised ballpark return based on speculation based on information supplied by a 'possible' buyer with profiteer motives.......... dubs is only next week, U know certain Type three freaks will be there, look at thier rides etc guage a realistic and reasonable price then advertise. See ya next week you hot thing you ;)

Agreed to a point,
but Dubs will be a good way to get a generalised idea price. At the end of the day, what someone is willing to pay is what you get.

not looking to buy, but a late square that has been off the road for 5 yrs with rust and some minor body damage will go under $1000. I would say between $500 to $1000 depending how bad the rust is.

Hard to price as late wagons not as popular as early. If no bad rust should be worth $1000 to $1500.Even the late wagons are wanted hard to realy price over the forum.
